Dozens of reports of trees and powerlines down were received.

Many reports were received of trees and wires down throughout the county causing substantial structural damage to homes and businesses. Thousands were reported without power.

A combination of heavy sleet and one-half inch of measured ice resulted in multiple power outages and trees down throughout the county.

An area of showers and thunderstorms moved across the north country during the morning hours. The thunderstorms produced damaging winds that downed trees and power lines in and around Adams Center. In one case, a car was damaged by a falling tree.

A strengthening southerly wind ahead of a cold front during the morning hours brought measured wind gusts to 45 mph. Across the higher elevations the strong winds brought down some trees and power lines. Specifically, damage was reported near Clyde, Watertown, Adams, New Bremen, Crystal Dale and Middle Branch Settlement.

A thunderstorm complex moved across southern Ontario into the north country of New York. The thunderstorms produced winds measured to 65 mph which produced widespread damage across the area. Trees and power lines were downed and power outages were reported from throughout the region. Utilities reported several thousand without power. Some specific towns affected included: Wellsley Island, Alexandria Bay, Carthage, Croghan, Diana, Lowville, Ellisburg, Henderson, Denmark, and Lyonsdale.

Strong thunderstorms accompanied the passage of a cold front during the afternoon hours. The thunderstorms produced hail up to one inch in diameter in Wayne county and strong winds that downed trees and power lines in Jefferson and Lewis counties. The annual Military Appreciation Day at Fort Drum had to be cut short for safety reasons. The winds there blew away a large inflatable slide.

An intense east coast storm lifted north across New England on Tuesday the 28th and brought an early season snowstorm to the Eastern Lake Ontario Region. The precipitation began as rain, but gradually changed over to snow during the afternoon and early evening. The snow was very heavy and wet and there were numerous reports of tree damage and broken limbs. Scattered power outages were reported. Specific snowfall reports included: 21��� at Redfield; 19��� at Hooker; 18��� at Harrisville; 16��� at Adams; 14��� at Carthage; and 8��� at Brownville.

Thunderstorms accompanied the passage of a strong cold front across the area during the evening hours. The storms produced damaging winds, estimated near 60 mph, which downed trees and power lines in parts of Genesee and Jefferson counties. Scattered power outages were reported in Pembroke, Chaumont and Clayton. One-inch hail fell near Deer River in Lewis County.

A line of severe thunderstorms moved through the area in the wee hours of the morning of the 12th. In addition to hail up to three-quarters of an inch in diameter, downburst winds brought down trees and power lines. In northeast Cattaraugus county, Town of Freedom, a small area of straight line winds produced damage along a path of about a half mile. The winds blew over a 30 foot long trailer which rolled several times before coming to rest about 50 feet away. The trailer was destroyed. There was also some minor roof and siding damage to a nearby home. Winds were estimated at 60 to 65 mph in this area. |In the central Livingston county Town of West Sparta, a concentrated area of more significant straight line wind damage occurred. The damage area was about 2 miles long and several hundred yards wide. There was shingle and siding damage to five buildings in the area along Redmond and McKay roads. There were also two sheds which were blown over. There were numerous trees uprooted and snapped off. This included two distinct areas of enhanced damage in forested areas just north of McKay road. Winds were estimated at 70 to 80 mph in this area. |As the storms moved further east, the downburst winds took down several trees in the Jefferson county Town of Adams where winds were estimated at 60 to 65 mph.

Strong thunderstorms over the eastern end of Lake Ontario moved onshore during the overnight hours. An isolated thunderstorm produced damaging winds, estimated approaching 60 mph, which downed trees and power lines in the south side of the City of Watertown.

Low pressure centered over southern Indiana tracked northeast and spread freezing rain across the area. Up to a half-inch of ice accumulated on trees and wires. The weight brought down some power lines with outages scattered throughout the area. Heavy icing was reported in Fulton, Warsaw, Livonia, Geneva, Henderson and North Osceola.

Thunderstorms moved across the north country during the late afternoon hours. The winds, gusting to 60 mph, downed trees and power lines. Several thousand lost power during the storm. Firefighters were called out in the Town of Cape Vincent to pump out flooded cellars. A section of Route 12 in Clayton was closed because utility poles were leaning over the highway. Damage was reported specifically in Fulton, Adams, Lowville, Natural Bridge, Champion, Cape Vincent and Clayton.

Scattered thunderstorms developed in a warm, moist southwest flow off Lake Ontario during the early morning hours. The thunderstorm winds downed trees and limbs in Harrisville, Adams, and Pulaski. In Adams, scattered power outages occurred where thunderstorm winds also downed power lines.

Outflow boundaries cross the Finger Lakes and thunderstorms develop and intensified as they moved across the north country. The thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines. In Adams, a home suffered damage when a tree fell onto its roof. Another home in Adams had its porch roof blown off.

A cold front which crossed the eastern Lake Ontario region during the afternoon hours, was accompanied by damaging thunderstorms. The thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines in Jefferson and Oswego counties. A portion of Route 104 in Mexico was closed by fallen trees.

An ice storm deposited one-half- to three-quarter- inch of ice at various locations in the north country. The ice downed tree limbs and power lines. As many as 7000 customers were without power at the peak of the storm. Hardest hit were the communities of Clayton, Cape Vincent, Alexandria Bay, Theresa, LaFargeville and Chaumont. The Red Cross set up an emergency shelter in Theresa and nearly two dozen took refuge there.

Thunderstorms moved onshore from Lake Ontario during the late afternoon hours producing damaging winds. The winds downed trees and power lines. A gust of 78 mph was recorded by the Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) at the Oswego County Airport in Fulton. Near the airport, several large trees were downed, one causing minor structural damage to a house. Another residence suffered minor structural damage as walls from a "Florida room" were torn and thrown from the house.

A line of thunderstorms crossed Jefferson county during the early afternoon hours. Jefferson County Sheriffs reported power and phone lines down by the thunderstorm winds in Henderson.

Thunderstorms produced damaging winds which downed power lines in Alexandria Bay, Jefferson county. The strong storms also produced downpours of one to two inches per hour across Lewis county. Some areas received over four inches of rain in less than three hours. In Lowville, street flooding occurred and roads were closed by the flood waters.
