Firefighter reported a small building overturned, a porch blown off, and other damage off of Parkton Tobemory Road near I-95 in the Parkton area. Downed treees across power lines at Parkton Tobemory Road near Highway 301.

Tropical storm force wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph associated with Hurricane Ian resulted in numerous downed trees and powerlines across the county. There were a few thousand without power in several communities in the area. Rainfall amounts averaged 2 to 4 inches.

Hurricane Matthew moved up the eastern seaboard, bringing very heavy rain and strong winds. Rainfall amounts over 12 inches occurred in multiple areas of the county. Wind gusts were surprisingly high, with a gust to 67 mph at the Lumberton Airport. Tropical storm force winds and flooded ground caused widespread tree and power line damage. The river gauge at the Lumber River at Lumberton failed, however the high watermark data from the U.S. Geological Survey indicated the water level may have reached over 25 feet. This exceeded the previous record by over 4 feet. This level bypassed the levee that protects parts of Lumberton from the river due to water passing under I-95 via VFR road. One elderly male died in his home on West Fifth Street on 10/9. The man had a heart condition and when power was lost, he was without oxygen. The family believes he may have died of a heart attack and then fell into flood waters which had overtaken his home from the Lumber River. The Lumber River also exceeded record levels at Boardman by about 2.5 feet. This resulted in the closure of U. S. Route 74, the main route between Wilmington and Lumberton. Numerous water rescues were required along and near the Lumber River. Many homes were flooded in Pembroke. This was one of the hardest hit counties due to the historic river flooding. The offices of the Robesonian Newspaper were flooded.

An eighth of an inch of ice was reported on Chime Drive in St Pauls. In Red Springs, a tenth of an inch of ice was reported on trees and power lines. A tree fell on a home in Red Springs. Another eighth of an inch of freezing rain was reported six miles east of Rennert. Sporatic power outages were reported.

Ice accumulations around the county ranged from under a tenth of an inch over the southern portion, to over four tenths of an inch over the northern portion. The roads remained largely passable, but there were many power outages, and most businesses and schools were either delayed or closed.

A mixture of sleet and snow began falling the afternoon of Jan 28th, changed over to all snow overnight, and tapered off to flurries by early morning on the 29th. Total snow and sleet accumulations in the county ranged from two to five inches. Due to the nature of the precipitation, power outages were isolated, however driving was treacherous. Numerous traffic accidents were reported as well as injuries due to slips and falls.

A National Weather Service Storm Survey Team concluded an EF1 tornado touched down near Barker Ten Mile, North Carolina. The maximum wind speed was estimated to 105 mph. The path length was near one and a half miles. The maximum path width was 352 yards. Several headstones were turned over in a cemetery on Highway 301. Several ornamental trees, up to eight inches in diameter, were snapped. A half dozen power poles were leaning over and a flag pole was completely bent over. Numerous trees were snapped along Interstate-95. Several dozen large hardwood and pine trees, up to two feet in diameter, were snapped or uprooted. Fallen trees caused substantial damage to over 100 homes along Robin Road, Castle Road and Sherwood Road.

Between five and seven inch of snow fell across the county. There were sporatic power outages, and one motorist was injured when their car skidded off the road on Hwy 211. A limb 12 inches in diameter and 20 feet in length fell from the weight of the snow.

A winter mix of sleet and ice fell over much of the county. Based on reports, up to a quarter inch of ice accumulated, with a half inch of ice and sleet combined accumulation over the northern portion of the county. Numerous power outages were reported.

A super-cell thunderstorm with damaging winds accelerated as it moved across Robeson County. Numerous trees and power lines were down and there was considerable structural damage. A National Weather Service Storm Survey concluded that a wet microburst produced a swath of damaging straight-line winds up to 125 mph. The microburst damage began near the intersection of Wilton Drive and Gem Road. Several trees were uprooted or snapped off and minor to moderate damage was observed to roof shingles and to siding. Significant damage was observed to the east of NC Highway 72. Numerous large trees were snapped off or uprooted along NC Highway 72 and significant structural damage occurred to approximately 8 homes on Sadie Drive. One of these homes was completely destroyed and another lost its entire roof. Several sheds and outbuildings were destroyed in this area. One adult woman suffered broken bones. The damage had a maximum path width of 350 yards and a path length of 2.25 miles. The Robeson County Emergency Manager estimated the damage at $813,000.00.

A mixture of sleet, freezing rain, and snow fell over most of Robeson and Bladen counties, and parts of Columbus county. The northern portion of Robeson county received nearly two inches of sleet and snow, with mainly sleet and freezing rain in Bladen and Columbus counties. The quarter to half inch of ice caused numerous reports of power outages due to the fallen trees and power lines. There were no reports of injuries.

Gaston made landfall the morning of the 29th as a tropical storm in Charlestown county SC. The storm moved north, through Georgetown, Williamsburg, and Florence counties. Gaston weakened to a tropical depression that night as it moved into Marion county and the remnants moved to Dillon county the morning of the 30th. Rainfall was the main element of the storm, with the heaviest swath of precipitation from Williamsburg county, through Florence and Darlington counties. Around five inches of rainfall on average occurred in this area with over ten inches of rain in the Kingstree area in Williamsburg county. Flash flooding was reported in Lake City and in Darlington during the late afternoon and evening. Many roads were flooded and closed in Kingstree, Greeleyville, and Hemingway. Front street in Georgetown was also closed. A tornado watch was issued, with one confirmed tornado near Wallace in Marlboro county. In North Carolina, rainfall ranged from around an inch near the coast, to near five inches in Robeson county, with street flooding. The winds associated with Gaston were not much of a factor, with the peak wind of 58 mph recorded at the Springmaid pier in Myrtle Beach. There were numerous limbs down, with some minor power outages. There was minor beach erosion reported at Bald Head Island and on the east side of Ocean Isle Beach. The effects of Gaston were felt weeks after, with widespread river flooding over the entire area. The Lumber river at Lumberton had record flooding, with a crest nearly eight feet above flood stage. There were several evacuations of homes in the Quinby area, and some flooding of farmlands in Pee Dee.

Rain began falling around 5 am and temperatures rose above freezing by 10 am. Ice accumulated mainly to trees, power lines, and metal surfaces, with less than a quarter inch reported. There was little damage.

Another round of frozen precipitation moved into the area on the heels of the storm of Jan 25th, bringing more freezing rain and sleet to areas that already had over a quarter inch of ice still in the trees. The total ice accumulations ranged from a trace near the coast to as much as three quarters of an inch over interior sections. The weight of the ice caused major power outages from falling limbs, as well as significant structural damage to many homes. There was some ice accumulations on the roads, especially on bridges and overpasses, with numerous traffic accidents reported. Many residences were without power for over a week. Monetary damages totaled over a million dollars per county in some parts of Nouth Carolina, due to cleanup of debris, utility expenses, and home repair.

Freezing rain began falling over the area the morning of Jan 25th, with ice accumulations reaching a quarter of an inch by the afternoon. Tree limbs snapped from the weight of the ice, causing widespread power outages. Much of the monetary damages were due to debris removal and utility company expenses. Many homes were also damaged when the tree limbs fell on them.

Skywarn reported numerous trees and power lines were blown down. In addition, a barn was blown down six miles north of Lumberton.

Around a tenth of an inch of freezing rain fell over the area. Only minor power outages were reported. Many schools and businesses were either closed or opened late.

Between a tenth and a quarter inch of ice was recorded. The ice caused branches to snap on many trees, causing power outages for 9000 residences. No major traffic accidents were noted. Strong high pressure over the mid-Atlantic fed a shallow layer of cold air across interior portions of the state. Low pressure formed over the Gulf coast, spreading moisture over the Carolinas. The result was freezing rain.

Low pressure formed in the Gulf of Mexico the morning of January 2nd and moved up the eastern seaboard. Moisture moved north, overrunning cold high pressure, setting up a wintery mix for North and South Carolina. The precipitation began as snow over South Carolina that afternoon, and expanded to include North Carolina later that afternoon. The precipitation changed to freezing rain and sleet, then to rain over coastal sections of North and South Carolina that evening and continued through the morning of January 3rd. The precipitation in the inland counties remained as a mix of freezing rain and sleet. As the the low pressure center continued to track north, cold air wrapped around the system, changing the precipitation back to all snow by midday on January 3rd, and continued until the snow tapered off by early morning on January 4th.The snowfall totals were heaviest over portions of Darlington, Marlboro, and Robeson counties, where between 6 to 8 inches fell, with some sleet mixed in. Counties further south and east, including Florence, Marion, Dillon, and Bladen counties received between 4 and 6 inches of snow, including between a half and an inch of freezing rain and sleet. Along coastal counties, between 1 and 3 inches of snow occurred, with around a half inch of sleet and freezing rain. There were numerous traffic accidents reported, although there was no information on injuries. In Florence county alone, emergency personnel reported 167 accidents, over double the normal amount. There were over 1500 traffic accidents reported in South Carolina alone. The freezing rain from the storm forced many trees and large branches to snap, causing numerous power outages around the area. More than 25,000 customers were without power in Horry, Georgetown, and Brunswick counties. Secondary roads in most areas proved treacherous, but road crews managed to keep highways and primary roads open. Many businesses and schools were closed on January 3rd and 4th, including 64,000 state workers.

A strong cold front moved through the area in the early morning with strong gusty winds behind the front. There were many reports of sustained winds 30-40 mph with gusts as high as 60 mph. Damage included a billboard blowdown in Whiteville, Columbus County. Several trees were downed, contributing to power outages to at least 600 homes. A tree fell on a house and car in Southport, Brunswick County. In Wilmington, 2 people were injured when a fence was blown down.

Low pressure formed along a nearly stationary frontal boundary over northern Florida on February 11th, with a strong and large area of high pressure to the north. Precipitation began as snow from the I-95 corridor and points west, with mainly sleet and freezing rain reported east of I-95. The northwest portion of the region received over five inches of snow. Over the course of a couple of days, the storm transitioned to mainly an ice event, with nearly an inch of ice reported over interior portions of northeast South Carolina, with lesser amounts over southeast North Carolina. In addition to creating extremely hazardous driving conditions, major power outages were reported due to downed limbs and power lines. Low pressure finally moved up the eastern seaboard and out of the region during the day on February 13th.

A powerful storm system that had moved across the deep south during previous days, swept across the eastern Carolinas during the afternoon and evening hours. Instability and shear values were highly supportive of super-cell thunderstorms. The result was a large outbreak of severe weather including strong and deadly tornadoes across eastern North Carolina.

Large upper low positioned over the Great Lakes region directed a powerful upper jet across the southeastern US. The most common severe weather reports were from downed trees due to the convective gusts.
