Frequent wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph resulted in scattered to numerous trees and power lines down across Moore County, including some on homes. Numerous customers lost power in Moore County as a result of the tropical storm force wind gusts. A 24 year old male died when he car hydroplaned and ran off the road and struck a tree.

A pre-frontal trough was present across western North Carolina amid a warm and moist airmass. A cold front moved southeast into the northern Mid-Atlantic, Ohio Valley, and the mid-south toward the morning of the 21st. Ahead of these surface boundaries, scattered showers and storms developed over southern North Carolina in the evening, from the southern Piedmont, eastward across the Sandhills and southern Coastal Plain. Some of the storms over Stanly and Moore Counties produced tree and power line damage.
