One motor vehicle accident occurred when car hit a downed tree, causing one person to be transported to the hospital with minor injuries. At one time more than 11,000 customers were without power in the county. A wind gust of 41 mph was measured near Ball Ground. Radar estimated between 1 and 4 inches of rain fell across the county with 3.57 inches measured on Kellogg Creek.

A tweet from the public was received reporting nickel sized hail in Ball Ground.

The Cherokee County Emergency Manager reported between one and three tenths of an inch of ice accumulation from freezing rain and drizzle across Cherokee County. The northeast portion of the county was hardest hit with numerous trees and power lines down and over 2000 residents without power from the evening of the 16th through the 17th.

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Director reported that a large tree was down on a home four miles west of Woodstock, causing damage to the structure. A power line was down three miles north of Canton, and two to three trees were down in the southeast part of the county, near Hickory Flat. The emergency manager measured the wind gusts at 41 mph in Canton.

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Director reported that dozens of trees were down across the county from strong straight-line thunderstorm winds, including areas around Waleska, Ball Ground, Canton, and Woodstock. A total of 15 homes across the county were damaged from downed trees, including two with major damage and four others with moderate damage. A middle-aged female was injured at one of the badly damaged homes when a large pine tree fell on her home. Amateur radio operators reported that the back wall of a building on Cherokee Drive in Ball Ground was blown down. Widespread power outages were also observed, especially in the Woodstock area.

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Director reported that two trees were down just south of Ball Ground, one of which had taken out a power line on Ball Ground Highway. The road had to be closed until the downed power line could be repaired. Another tree was down just north of Holly Springs. This tree also took out a power line and blocked a road.

The Cherokee County 911 Center reported that six to seven trees and two power lines were down in the vicinity of Woodstock on both side of Interstate-575.

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Director reported that one large tree was blown down onto a home in the far southwest part of the county near Lake Allatoona and two large trees were down on power lines seven miles west of Woodstock near the Cobb county line.

Several reports of large hail were received from southern Cherokee county. The public observed penny to quarter-sized hail from southwest Cherokee county approximately six miles west-northwest of Woodstock into the city of Woodstock. Golf ball-sized hail was observed by the public in the southeast corner of the county, or about five miles east-southeast of Woodstock. The Fulton County EMA Director was in the area at the time and estimated wind gusts of 60 mph. However, no tree, power line, or structural damage was reported.

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Director reported that more than 100 trees were down across the county. At least 40 roads were blocked from downed trees. Several homes sustained structural damage, at least 12 of which suffered moderate damage. At least 10,000 residents of the county were left without power following the event.

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Director reported that strong winds on the back side of a large area of rain and thunderstorms (sometimes referred to as a wake low) blew down several large trees and power lines from northeast of Ball Ground, to Canton, to Holly Springs. Several roads were blocked from the downed trees and power lines.

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Director reported that thunderstorm downburst winds blew down dozens of trees on the east and north side of Lake Allatoona. A number of trees were also down between the eastern side of Lake Allatoona and Woodstock as well. Several campers were damaged at the Sweetwater Campground and one person at the campground sustained non-life threatening injuries when a large tree fell on their tent. In addition, playground equipment was damaged at a park in Woodstock from a large downed tree. Several roads were blocked from downed trees and many power lines and also down in the area. Up to 25,000 people in the area were left without power for several hours following the storm. The Cherokee Tribune reported that up to 134 homes in the area sustained at least minor damage from wind and/or lightning.

The Cherokee County 911 Center reported that many trees and power lines were down across the eastern half of the county from just east of Woodstock, to Canton, to North Canton, to Ball Ground.

A damage survey conducted by the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Peachtree City, Georgia concluded that an EF1 tornado touched down near the intersection of Interstate-575 and Sixes Road and traveled on the ground approximately 5-6 miles ending near the intersection of Georgia Highway 92 and Wigley Road. The maximum path width of the tornado was approximately one mile wide with maximum winds estimated to be 95 mph. The Falton Lakes Mobile Home Park sustained significant damage with substantial damage to many site-built homes also observed in the East Cherokee Drive Area.||Overall damage consisted of 60 destroyed homes, 35 of which were site-built and 25 were mobile. Twenty-five additional mobile homes sustained minor damage. In addition to the 35 destroyed site-built homes, 391 additional homes sustained major damage and 588 sustained minor damage. Ten multi-family homes also received minor damage. Minor damage occurred to ten commercial buildings. Four school district buildings sustained major damage as well as 16 mobile school instructional units. Hundreds of trees were down in the area and many power lines were down as well. One indirect death to a 24-year old male and an indirect injury to a female occurred on May 29th when two very large trees fell on two vehicles. These trees were weakened from the tornado that occurred on May 20th.

This area of damage stopped just short of the Forsyth county line.||In all, one mobile home was destroyed, six vehicles were destroyed, 25 homes sustained minor damage, four agricultural buildings were damaged, an Atlanta Gas-Light substation received minor damage, parts of the Georgia Northeast Railroad tracks just east of Interstate-575 were blocked with downed trees, much debris was found and had to be cleared from county right-of-ways, and power lines were down at multiple locations. Damages were estimated to be $150,000.

Numerous trees and power lines were down, especially in the central and southern areas of the county. One home was destroyed when a large pine tree crashed through the home, three other homes had moderate damage, and five sustained minor damage. A barn also suffered moderate damage and two automobiles were destroyed when trees fell on the vehicles.

A cold Canadian air mass remained over the state in the wake of the Arctic front which moved through the north and central Georgia earlier in the week. A weak disturbance aloft moved over the cold air mass early on the 22nd and brought light precipitation to north Georgia. Temperatures in some areas of the far northwest and favorable cold air wedge areas of the northeast were just below freezing. As a result, most of the precipitation during the early morning fell as light freezing rain. A light coating of ice was observed in a few north Georgia counties, mainly on trees and power lines. Ice accumulations were all observed to be less than 1/4 inch. Banks, Cherokee, Dade, Dawson, Forsyth, Lumpkin, and White counties all reported minor accumulations of ice, mainly on trees and power lines. Dade county reported the worst conditions with some roads closed and schools canceled.

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Director reported that lightning struck a home east of Woodstock. The home suffered minor damage as a result. There were also several areas without power because of lightning strikes. One tree was also down just east of Woodstock.

Two to three trees were also down on power lines just west of Woodstock and also three miles east-northeast of Woodstock as well. Pea-sized hail was also observed in the area.

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Director reported that strong straight line thunderstorm winds, associated with a Derecho or bow echo, caused extensive damage to trees and power lines across much of the county. A measured wind gust of 68 mph was observed 5 miles northwest of Waleska at 1:28 am EDT and a wind gust of 58 mph was measured by wind recording equipment at the Cherokee County Emergency Operations Center in Canton at 1:38 am EDT. Dozens of trees were blown down and a number of power lines were either brought down by the fallen trees or blown down by the strong winds. However, no significant damage to structures was reported during the event.

The Cherokee county Emergency Management Director reported that a number of trees and power lines were blown down in Sutalee, in several locations six to eight miles southeast of Canton, in Hickory Flat, and just west of Woodstock.

The Cherokee county Emergency Management Director witnessed and conducted a survey on an F0 to weak F1 tornado that tore a short one-mile path through the Keithsburg community just north of Canton. The tornado touched down just one mile north of the intersection of Interstate 575 and Georgia Highway 5 traveling east at approximately 50 miles an hour for around 1 minute, terminating on the east side of Keithsburg near Green Road. Tin roofs to the Haynes Lumber Company near Interstate-575 were damaged along with damage to a rental home on Green Road in Keithsburg. Multiple points of damage to trees and power lines in the area was also noted. The Emergency Management Director and the local Sheriff had spotted a funnel cloud just north of Canton earlier and the Emergency Management Director witnessed the tornado at 12:56 pm EDT. No injuries or fatalities were reported during the incident.

The Cherokee county Emergency Management Director reported that glass was blown out of a building in Woodstock injuring four people. Two trees were blown down on a car, and numerous other trees were blown down in the Woodstock area, many on power lines. An amateur radio operator reported that traffic signals were blown down on Georgia Highway 92 at Interstate 575. Much of the damage occurred near Georgia Highway 92.

The Cherokee County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) reported that trees and power lines were blown down near Georgia Highway 5 and Bells Ferry Road in Canton. In addition, the public reported a large pine tree blown down in Holly Springs.

Typical afternoon summertime showers and thunderstorms developed within a persistent and abnormally moist tropical airmass during the afternoon and evening of July 8th , aided by stout instability as a weak upper level disturbance moved around the eastern periphery of a retrograding upper level ridge. These storms produced numerous reports of trees and powerlines down and isolated flash flooding across portions of north Georgia and far east-central Georgia.

Showers and thunderstorms affected much of the area ahead of a strong storm system and associated cold front. Some of the storms became severe with damaging winds and a few tornadoes, mainly on January 2nd. In the colder air behind the front, rain mixed with and eventually changed over to snow across parts of north Georgia (generally north of I-20/I-85) late on the 2nd and into January 3rd, with a dusting to up to 4 inches of snowfall (mainly across the higher elevations of far north GA). On the back side of this storm system, strong post-frontal winds of 30-50 mph occurred during the early morning hours of January 3rd. Numerous reports of downed trees and powerlines occurred with several injuries.
