Episodes

November 15, 2020

A potent surface low lifted across the western Great Lakes on November 15, 2020, bringing two rounds of convection and high winds. Wind gusts of 50 to 65 mph caused power outages, structural damage, and blew over trees across northwest Ohio.

October 26, 2010

Rapidly deepening low pressure over the plains, allowed for an extremely strong wind flow at all levels. The system which eventually dropped to a central pressure of 955 mb tracked northeast into Canada, dragging a powerful cold front through the area. Individual storms eventually congealed into a Line Echo Wave Pattern that moved across northwestern Ohio. Numerous misocyclones were observed on the line, which resulted in pockets of wind damage as well as weak tornadoes briefly developing.

December 15, 2007

A powerful winter storm tracked in from the gulf states with abundant moisture. Cold air was in place across much of northwestern Ohio. However, warmer air aloft did arrive in portions of the area allowing for not only 4 to 7 inches of snow but ice accumulations of one to three tenths of an inch.

February 24, 2007

A late February storm system brought widespread precipitation in the form of mainly freezing rain. Several locations did see periods of sleet during the event, however the ice accumulations posed the greatest threat. Reports of around one quarter inch of ice along with a few tenths of an inch of sleet was reported across parts of northwest Ohio. 10 to 20 mph winds caused additional problems with fallen tree limbs and power lines, causing road closures and power outages. Temperatures rose above freezing during the overnight hours keeping overall damage to a minimum.

February 13, 2007

A powerful winter storm blanketed northwest Ohio with heavy snow and strong winds. This caused widespread whiteout conditions across the area with many roads becoming impassable due to drifting snowfall. Numerous schools and businesses were closed on Valentines day as a result of the dangerous weather. The blowing and drifting was so widespread, that many counties pulled the snow plows from the roads and declared travel restrictions to all but emergency vehicles. Snow accumulations ranged from 6 inches in far northern Ohio, to around a foot in Van Wert and Allen counties.
