Power Outage in New Iberia, LA

Scattered trees were downed and scattered power outages as well. Some roofs received minor damage. Wind gust estimates were in the 40 to 65 mph range.

Wind gusts of 75 to 85 mph and heavy rainfall lead to numerous downed trees and power lines across the parish. KARA reported a peak sustained wind of 53 mph with a peak gust of 86 mph. A natural gas leak caused by Delta produced a fire after a homeowner lit a cigarette. The female resident died in the fire while the male succumbed days later in the hospital.

There was a voluntary evacuation for the parish. Many trees and power lines were blown down across the parish. Homes and businesses were damaged from the fallen trees or wind. Property south of the intracoastal waterway was flooded by the storm surge. Over 50 percent of the parish was without power immediately after the storm. Wind gusts ranged from 50 to 75 mph.

The hurricane made landfall on the 13th, however strong wind gusts continued into the 14th. Due to strong tropical storm force wind gusts numerous power outages were reported, and numerous trees were also downed across the parish. The hospital in New Iberia lost power and both generators during the hurricane and had to evacuate 60 patients in the middle of the storm. The Acadiana Regional Airport recorded a peak wind gust of 57 knots.

NWS storm survey found microburst wind damage from 2 miles east of the Morbihan community to 1 mile south of the Vida community. A few trees and power lines were blown down along Northside Road and Loureauville Road. An outbuilding was demolished on Northside Road south of Cajun Drive. All debris was blown in a southwest to northeast direction with estimated winds up to 65 mph.
