February 14, 2021 - Extreme Cold/Wind Chill

Extreme cold gripped the county for several days. Overnight lows were below 20 degrees Fahrenheit almost all week. The period of February 15-16th was the coldest with low temperatures between 5 and -2 degrees Fahrenheit. The maximum temperature on the 15th was only in the teens. Wind chill values during the 14th-16th were between 10 to -15 degrees Fahrenheit most of the time. The cold temperatures resulted in an extreme amount of damage to pipes, infrastructure, and power.

December 5, 2013 - Winter Storm

Up to 2 of ice and sleet accumulated in Hood County. Most of the accumulations were due to sleet. A trained spotter reported 2 of ice and sleet in Oak Trail Shores. More than 1 of ice and sleet was reported in Granbury by the public. Lake Granbury Medial Center reported 75 patients from fall-related injuries due to the ice. Of that 75, 39 had fractures. Several traffic accidents occurred on the icy streets and numerous tree branches broke due to the weight of the ice. Some power lines also snapped due to the weight of the ice.

May 15, 2013 - Tornado

National Weather Service crews surveyed the damage from the Granbury tornado. The tornado first occurred on the west bank of Lake Granbury / Brazos River. The tornado crossed the lake heading east, towards Davis Road. On the east side of the lake, the tornado damaged several power lines and trees, before hitting the American Legion hall on Davis Road. ||The tornado then took much more of a northerly track through the Rancho Brazos subdivision. This subdivision was severely damaged, with 97 of the 110 homes suffering at least minor damage. Four homes suffered EF-4 damage, and ten others had EF-3 damage. The vast majority of the subdivision had evidence of EF-1 or EF-2 damage. Six individuals lost their lives in this subdivision as a direct result of the tornado. All six were in mobile homes at the time. ||Moving north from the Rancho Brazos subdivision, the tornado dissipated approximately one mile to the north-northeast of the area that suffered the most damage.
