Power Outage in Aiken, SC

Several reports from Aiken County Emergency Manager along with public reports of trees and powerlines down in downtown Aiken. One tree reported down in front of the Aiken Library and another down along Richland Avenue.

Sheriff dispatch reported trees and power lines down along A P Nivens St near Gregg St in Graniteville.

Dispatch reported flooding in many locations in the Beech Island community, blocking roadways. A car stalled in floodwaters on Sand Bar Ferry Rd and Urquhart Dr. Water entered a power plant along Urquhart Dr while a digital rain gage at the plant record 4.5 inches of rain in an hour.

Spotter relayed a report from Beech Island FD of a tree down on power lines on Old Jackson Hwy at Silver Bluff Rd and at Old Jackson Hwy at Kathwood Rd. Time estimated.

The National Weather Service storm survey confirmed an EF2 tornado from northern|Aiken County into southern Lexington County. The peak wind associated with the tornado was 130 mph.||The tornado touched down in Aiken Co near the intersection of Holder Rd and|Huckleberry Finn Rd. The tornado move quickly to the northeast crossing Holder Rd|and along Fishhook Ln. The tornado crossed into Lexington Co then dissipated in Lexington Co. ||While in Aiken Co, the tornado produced a path of downed branches, uprooted trees|and snapped trees. The most significant damage occurred along Holder Rd and|Fishhook Ln. The tornado damaged 3 homes and downed power lines in the area. A|small wooden home lost a portion of it's metal roof. A home was partially pushed off its|foundation. Some of the supporting piers collapsed and the home had signs of buckling|along the side and rear walls. This home is where the one injury (male, age unknown)|occurred, as the roof partially collapsed. The third home was damaged when a tree fell|on the roof. There were numerous downed, uprooted and snapped trees around the 3|homes. The area was initially inaccessible until county clean up crews arrived. ||The tornado continued northeast along Fishhook Ln where significant tree damage|occurred. There were numerous large hardwood and softwood trees that were snapped|at the end of Fishhook Ln. A small metal shed was destroyed. A rusted antique car was|moved approximately 50 feet where it had resided in the shed. A car engine was|moved approximately 35 feet from where it resided in the shed. The home on the|property had a couple of small areas of damage where the wooden siding was|removed. ||The tornado continued northeast and crossed into Lexington Co through the swampy|area at the headwaters of the North Fork of the Edisto River that includes Shirley|Branch and Chinquapin Creek.

Winds associated with Tropical Storm Michael caused wind damage throughout the county. The highest measured wind speed in Aiken County was 46 MPH at Aiken Municipal Airport at 0415 EST (0515 EDT) on October 11. The roof of a trailer was peeled off on Irving Dr. in Aiken. A tree fell on a house on McCormick St in NW Aiken. A tree fell on a mobile home on Church St and Clearwater St in Clearwater. 25-30 trees were downed throughout the county. Around 9700 power outages were reported in the county.

Numerous reports of trees down throughout the county including the cities of Aiken, Burnettown and Windsor. Also, Broadcast Media and Utility Cooperative reports of numerous power outages especially along the Aiken/Barnwell County line.

A tree and power line were downed in Aiken at Edisto Ave and Valley Dr. Also, a peak wind gust of 41 MPH was reported at 1315 EDT (1215 EST) by an AWOS unit at Aiken Municipal Airport.

A major Ice Storm produced 3/4 to 1 inch of ice and around 3 inches of snow and sleet across western Aiken County with 1 to 1.25 inches of ice and 2 inches of sleet and snow across eastern Aiken County. Numerous trees and powerlines were down. Power outages were widespread across the county affecting most of the population.

There was also one indirect death of a man who crashed trying to avoid trees on the highway and was killed.

A cold front moved through the region during the morning. A tightening surface pressure gradient, between developing low pressure to the NE and surface high pressure to the west, resulted in windy conditions developing behind the front, with peak wind gusts just under 50 mph in some locations during the afternoon. Several reports of downed trees and power lines were received.

Thunderstorms over the CSRA and Pee Dee regions produced strong winds that took down trees and powerlines and also some large hail.

A few severe thunderstorms in Orangeburg and Bamberg counties took down some and powerlines and produced some large hail.

Severe thunderstorms produced damaging winds and large hail. Most of the wind damage was mainly trees and powerlines down. One small EF0 tornado touched down just southeast of Bamberg snapping off trees.

An isolated severe storm along the Fairfield and Kershaw county line, and another in southeast Aiken county took down trees and powerlines and produced quarter size hail.

Isolated severe thunderstorms produced some wind damage over portions of the Pee Dee region and northwest areas of the Midlands, mainly taking down some trees and powerlines.

A squall line associated with a strong cold front moved through the area and took down trees and powerlines throughout. Some minor structural damage was done to an elementary school in McCormick county when a few trees fell onto the building.

Scattered severe thunderstorms around the Midlands produced locally heavy rains and microbursts that took down trees and powerlines.

Scattered storms over the lower Midlands produced some microburst wind damage that took down trees and powerlines.

Severe thunderstorms produced wind damage across the Midlands taking down trees and powerlines and damaging some homes.

Heavy rain saturated soils across the area and wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph toppled a few trees in the Midlands. A few isolated thunderstorms also took down some trees and powerlines.

Supercell thunderstorms moved across the lower midlands and produced large tornadoes. Other storms in the central midlands produced large hail and microburst wind damage. The largest tornado tracked across Aiken county along highway 278. There was one indirect fatality and around a dozen people were sent to the hospital. Several homes were destroyed and many had moderate to severe damage. Widespread trees and powerlines were also down in Aiken county. Total damage estimate was 6 million dollars.

Scattered pulse storms produced several microbursts across the area taking down trees and powerlines. Several power outages were also reported.
