Recent Weather Related Causes of Power Outages in DeKalb County
Tornado. Aerial surveillance provided by Jackson County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), supplemented by a ground survey of National Weather Service personnel and DeKalb County EMA confirmed an EF-1 tornado near the Flat Rock area.||The tornado tracked from Jackson into DeKalb County where it caused minor roof damage to a single-family home and uprooted several trees. As it tracked east to Highway 75, power poles were tilted, and additional trees were uprooted before the tornado lifted just east of Highway 75.

Strong Wind. Windy conditions developed ahead of and immediately behind a line of severe thunderstorms. Sustained wind speeds of 25-35 mph gusted frequently from 40-50 mph at times. Trees and power lines were knocked down as a result of the winds.

Tropical Storm. Trees were knocked down at multiple locations including Alabama Highways 68 and 176, U.S. Highway 11 at County Road 83, County Roads, 212, 479, 124, and 127. Trees were knocked down on Interstate 59 at mile markers 208 and 234. Also, a power pole was knocked down onto County Road 359. A tree and power lines were knocked down onto County Road 88 in the 100 block.
