March 3, 2023 - Strong Wind

Windy conditions developed ahead of and immediately behind a line of severe thunderstorms. Sustained wind speeds of 25-35 mph gusted frequently from 40-50 mph at times. Trees and power lines were knocked down as a result of the winds.

Numerous trees were knocked down at the courthouse in Guntersville. At least one of the oaks was 100 years old which fell and damaged the fenced in county memorial area. Power was knocked out in parts of the county.

August 15, 2022

A band of thunderstorms developed along a cold front during the mid afternoon hours. One of the thunderstorms knocked down trees & powerlines in the Boaz area. This same storm also tore metal roofing off of a building in that same area in Marshall County.

October 28, 2020

Tropical Storm Zeta moved rapidly northeast through central into southern portions of northeast Alabama. The storm produced wind gusts of 35-40 mph in a small portion of northeast Alabama. Several reports were received of trees and power lines being knocked down in DeKalb County.

December 8, 2018

A wake low and/or series of gravity waves within this low produced strong and gusty winds for a couple of hours across portions of north central through northeast Alabama, including Cullman, Marshall and DeKalb Counties. Wind gusts of 35 to 50 mph were measured and there were multiple reports of trees and power lines being knocked down, causing loss of power. In Dekalb County along, nearly 40 reports of downed trees and power lines were reported by EMA officials.

September 11, 2017

Tropical Depression Irma moved into southwest Georgia during the afternoon and evening of the 11th. This resulted in windy conditions across northeast Alabama. North to northeast winds gusted over 35 mph in a few locations. This resulted in a few reports of trees and tree limbs being knocked down. A few hundred residents also lost power due to the downed tree limbs onto utility lines.

February 24, 2016

A strong low pressure system moved northeast through Mississippi and across the northwest tip of Alabama during the overnight hours of the 23rd into the 24th. Bands of moderate to heavy showers and a few thunderstorms occurred ahead of this cold front and low across north Alabama. A wake low was generated behind one of the heavier precipitation bands and spread gusty winds of 35 to 50 mph across central into northeast Alabama during a period from approximately 10 pm through 1 am LST. Winds gusted up to 60 mph at one location downing multiple trees. Emergency management and media received several reports of trees and power lines being knocked down in these areas, with power outages reported. Gusty winds of 25 to 40 mph continued through the morning hours, with a few more reports of power outages.
