Aldrich Power Outages Caused by Weather

May 30, 2022 - Tornado

This tornado was wrapped in damaging downburst winds and rain as it rapidly tracked to the north northeast from the Todd County line, across far southeast Wadena County for about 9.5 miles, to the Cass County line. It snapped numerous single pole and double X-braced power poles. it tumbled at least three center pivot irrigation systems. Numerous oak, ash, and pine trees were snapped. The Old Wadena and Bullard Campgrounds had swaths of pine trees laid down. One cabin had the roof and sidewalls torn out. Peak winds to 130 mph. Time estimated based on radar.

Trees and power lines were blown down between Verndale and Aldrich, in southern Aldrich Township.

Widespread tree damage occurred along county road 2 through the area just north of the Staples airport. Numerous power poles were snapped and large tree branches and limbs were blown down across southern Thomastown Township.

A tornado wrapped in heavy rain and damaging downburst winds tracked across southern Wadena and Aldrich townships. The tornado tore down four sets of H-pole high voltage power poles and demolished outbuildings and a storage barn at the England Prairie Pioneer Farms. The tornado also demolished a silo and ripped through sections of center pivot irrigation systems at multiple locations. Peak winds were estimated at 120 mph.

Verndale area saw brunt of damage with 94 mph winds reported. Power lines are still down and people are encouraged to stay away from these areas.
