A powerful storm system aloft moved from the southern Rockies into the southern Plains on the 16th. The system dredged abundant moisture northward from the Gulf Coast, with rain becoming widespread. A cold front barreled into the region, with showers and thunderstorms ahead of the front.
Severe thunderstorms downed numerous trees and power lines across parts of Clark County. The roof of a dorm was blown off at a university in Arkadelphia. Several homes in the county also sustained roof damage.
Thunderstorm winds downed a number of trees and power lines. A large scoreboard, located on the campus of Ouachita Baptist University, also sustained damage.
Severe thunderstorms moved across portions of Clark County and downed a number of trees and large tree limbs. Several power poles were also knocked down. Most of the damage occurred in and around the Gurdon and Arkadelphia areas.
Lightning struck some conduit containing a power line, with the conduit split. Fire was sent through the main electrical line into a nearby home, with flames spreading quickly through the upper level of the structure.
