Bartlett Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Blizzard conditions began across Wheeler County by 6 pm CST on April 4, 2009. Snowfall amounts were around 6 inches. Strong north winds of 30 to 45 mph caused significant blowing and drifting snow with reduced visibility to below a quarter mile at times during the overnight hours. Snow drifts up to 3 feet high closed roads and strong winds caused some power outages across the county.
Freezing rain preceded the heavy snow with ice accumulations up to a quarter inch causing some downed power lines and tree branches. Storm total snowfall amounts ranged from 3 to 6 inches. The snow combined with winds of 15 to 30 mph causing blowing and drifting.
Ice accumulations of a quarter to half inch caused broken tree branches and snapped power lines. Snowfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches followed.
The tornado touched down in an grove of trees, uprooting and breaking off numerous large trees. As the tornado moved southeastwards, it encountered a farmstead where it ripped off the roof of the home, destroyed a machine shed and garage, and broke power poles. Before lifting, the tornado moved through a field and overturned the end of a center pivot irrigation system.
