November 26, 2013 - Ice Storm

Snow changed to freezing rain during the afternoon on the 26th and resulted in significant winter weather impacts during the pre-Thanksgiving holiday travel. These included multiple vehicle accidents, road closures, downed trees/wires and power outages. A prolonged period of freezing rain produced ice accumulations between 0.25 and 0.50 inch by nightfall.

Snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches were observed from midnight through the morning hours. Sporadic power outages were reported due to heavy wet snow.

High winds knocked down several trees with scattered power outages reported county-wide.

Non-thunderstorm wind gusts between 55 and 65 mph toppled numerous trees and power lines across Bedford County. The high winds caused a barn to collapse as well as moderate structural damage to several area residences.

Bedford county emergency manager reported power lines down near Bedford Valley Road approximately 3 miles west-southwest of Lake Gordon.

Scattered thunderstorms impacted southwestern and south-central Pennsylvania during the early morning hours of May 4, 2022. One lightning strike hit the Kittenknob radio tower, which caused the radio system for Bedford County 911 to go to generator power for a day and a half and knocked out tower lights in the area.
