Brattleboro Power Outages Caused by Weather

The Brattleboro Fire Department reported tree damage and isolated power outages from Stockwell Drive in West Brattleboro to Kipling Road in Brattleboro. Tree damage was also reported along Black Mountain Road, Upper Dummerston Road, and East Orchard Street.

Heavy rainfall from thunderstorms led to flash flooding in the town of Rockingham. The Williams River overflowed its banks, causing flooding at a power plant along the river. About four inches of water was inside the power plant before water receded.
Episodes
Scattered thunderstorms developed during the afternoon of July 28th ahead of a weak frontal boundary. One of these storms produced fairly extensive damage across the town of Westminster, downing numerous trees, some onto houses and cars. The storm cleanup was estimated to cost $80,000, and portions of the town lost power which was not restored until the next day.
A cold front interacted with a warm and humid airmass to produce several clusters of thunderstorms on September 5. One of these storms became severe in southern Vermont with wind damage and large hail reported. Numerous trees and power lines were reported down in the town of Brattleboro.
A cold front tracked east across southern Vermont during the afternoon hours of Monday, June 19th, 2017. With a warm and unstable air mass in place, the frontal passage sparked numerous showers and thunderstorms across the area. Some of these thunderstorm were severe, knocking down trees. In addition, very heavy rainfall fell across Windham County, as repeated rounds of thunderstorms produced up to four inches of rain. This led to flash flooding in Brattleboro, with several roads washed out and mudslides impacting the area. Nearly 2,00 people in Windham County lost power as a result of the thunderstorms.
A moist and unstable air mass ahead of an advancing cold front led to the developing of thunderstorms during the early afternoon hours on Tuesday, June 9th across eastern New York. As the thunderstorms organized into small lines, some of the thunderstorms produced wind damage, mainly to trees and power lines. These thunderstorms reached southern Vermont by the mid afternoon hours and produced a report of wind damage near Halifax.||Thunderstorms ended over the region by the late afternoon, as the cold front crossed the region from west to east.
A warm and humid air mass was in place across southern Vermont on the afternoon of Monday, July 7th. A cluster of showers and thunderstorms moved from upstate New York into southern Vermont during the mid afternoon hours. These thunderstorms had previously weakened, but were still associated with very strong winds aloft. As these thunderstorms interacted with the high terrain of the southern Green Mountains, they produced gusty winds. These winds caused damage to trees and power lines near Readsboro. The thunderstorm continued eastward towards the Connecticut River Valley, but did not produce any additional severe weather before exiting the state to the east.
