January 1, 2021 - Winter Storm

Light to moderate freezing rain formed early morning on New Year's Day. This freezing rain quickly accreted between a quarter to half inch before sunrise. Shortly after sunrise the freezing rain switched to light snow, which persisted for the bulk of the remaining day time hours. The snow did not accumulate more than 1 to 3 inches, but on top of the ice accretion created winter storm conditions. Mostly scattered power outages and vehicle accidents were the impacts, but being a holiday, road traffic was likely light.

Power is out on Lucille lane here in Butler. Not sure when it went out, was kind of hoping for an estimate on when it will be back.

Penny T | September 11, 2022

My power is out. I rent and the electric is in the landlords name. So because I don't have the account number, phone number associated with the account or the meter number I can let them know. How unsafe is this. Why can I use the address. This is so unsafe. But it's no big deal I'm only a single dad with one child in the house.

What is Power Outage?

Power outage (also called a power cut, a power blackout, power failure or a blackout) is a short-term or a long-term loss of the electric power to a particular area.

What Causes Power Outages?

  • Severe weather (high winds, lightning, winter storms, heat waves, rain or flooding can cause damage to power lines or equipment);
  • Other damage to electric transmission lines (vehicle accidents, trees, and animals can cause damage to power lines or equipment);
  • Repairing, maintenance or upgrades on power lines and equipment.

What are the Top Outage Safety Tips?

  • Stay away from the downed power lines, park vehicles in protected areas;
  • Unplug appliances and electronics, limit cell phone use to conserve battery life;
  • Use portable generators outdoors only, well away from open windows and doors;
  • Pack perishable foods into a cooler, keep refrigerator and freezer doors shut as much as possible.
