Recent Weather Related Causes of Power Outages in Santa Barbara County
Tornado. A weak tornado developed in the community of Carpinteria. The EF0 tornado impacted the area near the intersection of Highway 192 and Cravens Lane. In a mobile home park, 26 homes were damaged. Also, several powerlines were blown down. One injury was reported.

Thunderstorm Wind. A severe thunderstorm generate damaging microburst winds across the city of Santa Barbara. Thunderstorm wind gusts up to 80 MPH were reported. With such strong winds, widespread significant damage was reported, including many trees being uprooted. Along San Pascual Street, a high voltage power line was knocked down, resulting in major burn injuries for one male. At Stearns Wharf, numerous boats were washed ashore and one teenage female was injured.

A powerful winter storm brought significant rain and snow to Southwestern California. Rainfall totals for the storm generally ranged between 1 and 4 inches across the area with the highest rainfall amounts across San Luis Obispo County. Significant snowfall was reported across the mountains with 12 to 24 inches of snowfall above 6000 feet and 3 to 8 inches below 6000 feet. In addition, cold and unstable air associated with the storm generated some strong thunderstorms across the area.

Thunderstorm Wind. A microburst developed in the community of Santa Barbara. The downburst occurred along West Haley Avenue between Bath and De La Vina Streets. Several flowering trees were toppled upon power lines and vehicles.

A powerful early season storm brought high wind, heavy snow and severe thunderstorms to Southern California. Across San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, southeast winds gusting to 60 mph knocked down numerous power lines and small trees. In Santa Barbara county, thunderstorm winds to 58 MPH were recorded at Vandenberg Air Force Base. In the mountains of Ventura and Los Angeles counties, the combination of gusty winds and snowfall accumulations between 8 and 14 inches produced hazardous winter storm conditions.
