Power Outage in Camden, TN

The RAWS site in Camden measured a 66 mph gust. Numerous trees, power lines, and power poles were knocked down across the county. Structural damage to a home and a business also occurred.

Around one-quarter inch of ice accumulated on trees and elevated surfaces. A few trees and powerlines were knocked down with scattered power outages. Numerous tree limbs were broken and a few traffic accidents occurred.

Seven tractor trailer trucks were blown over on the I-40 bridge over the Tennessee River. In addition, numerous trees and power lines were knocked down across the county. Several homes and a few structures around the county were damaged.

Several trees reported down across the county with scattered power outages. Trees were reported down across Highway 70 just west of the 641 bypass. Two large trees were knocked down, blocking Cedar Lakes Road.

Benton County Emergency Management reported ice accumulations brought down trees and power lines all across the county causing some power outages.

In Holladay, fifteen hundredths of an inch of ice accumulation from freezing rain occurred on elevated surfaces such as trees and power lines. This resulted in a significant impact to commerce and transportation in and around this area from the late afternoon hours on Tuesday, January 15th through the early morning hours on Wednesday, January 16th. Up to a quarter inch of ice accumulated in far southern portions of the county.

Worst damage was from Big Sandy to Faxon to Grannys Branch.||Fourteen homes were destroyed, and one other had major damage. About half of these homes were mobile homes.

Numerous trees and power lines were blown down. 3 homes had damage because trees fell on them. A 75-foot oak tree, whcih was probably more than 100 years old, fell into another tree, and they both fell on a carport and on a 1995 Ford Aerostar van. The hardest hit areas was in northeast Camden on Wren Avenue, Rowsey Street, and Flatwoods Road. A 500 foot TV tower belonging to Charter Cable fell to the ground. The tower will not be erected, and the metal will be sold for scrap. Dollar damage estimate was from Benton County EMA director.

Electric company reported a tree down on a powerline on U.S. Hwy 64, just south of Camden.

Benton County EMA reported 6 inches of wet snow was common across the county with some spots receiving as much as 8 to 9 inches. There were 2300 people without power. The precipitation changed over from rain to wet snow as an upper level low pressure area deepened over the mid state.
