A deep upper trough was sweeping through the mid U.S. and into the eastern U.S. A wedge of colder air was noted across north Georgia. These two weather systems combined to bring widespread rain and gusty winds to much of north and central Georgia during the early morning hours of the 24th. Strong winds resulted in several tree limbs falling on power lines in the Rockmart area of Polk county. This left about 300 residents in the area without power for several hours during the early morning. While strong winds existed in other areas, this was the only report of damage received.
