Chanute Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Several reports of tree and power line damage in the county including Galesburg, Erie and Saint Paul.
Widespread tree and power line damage in a narrow corridor from Saint Paul to the Crawford County line. There was damage to an outbuilding noted as well.
Power lines were knocked down.
Trees and power poles were blown down across town. The report was received at 320 AM CDT/220 AM CST.
Four travel trailers and eight vehicles were damaged or destroyed. One such trailer was 28 feet long and attached to a Ford F250, both of which were blown over. A couple of old barns and tin buildings were also destroyed. Downed trees and power lines were reported in Chanute.
Episodes
An unseasonably warm and moist day set the stage for a severe thunderstorm outbreak across parts of the Central and Southern Plains. The hardest hit areas were the Missouri Ozarks and northeast Oklahoma. However, Southeast Kansas saw several thunderstorms blossom ahead the main storm system. The storms produced up to one inch hail and a knocked down several power lines.
