A frontal boundary dropped southeast across Iowa during the day. The airmass was very unstable with surface dew point temperatures in the mid 70s F. over a large area. Thunderstorms erupted during the early afternoon hours along this boundary. They formed into a line and moved east-southeast across south central and southeast Iowa. Most of the storms remained below severe levels and only produced 40 to 50 MPH winds and pea to marble size hail. One cluster of thunderstorms became severe and moved across Lucas, Monroe, and Davis Counties. The storm produced gusty winds and widespread power outages in the towns of Chariton, Albia, and Bloomfield. One inch diameter hail fell in Chariton as well.
