Cheyenne Wells Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
The thunderstorm winds caused a power outage which lasted between 15 and 25 minutes.
A couple of power poles were blown down, as well as several live three-inch diameter tree branches. Some shingles were also damaged.
Power lines reported down on highway 40 just west of the state line. A cattle feeder and cattle shed were also damaged.
Eight to ten inch diameter trees were reported down and power outages occurred across the town. A grain auger was damaged. The back window of an SUV was blown in and a pick-up truck was pushed into a ditch.
Episodes
A significant storm moved across Cheyenne County Colorado and Wallace County Kansas on the evening of June 21, 2019. This storm produced powerful wind gusts and hail ranging from quarter size to tennis ball size. Sporadic wind damage occurred with this storm along with damage associated with wind-driven hail.
During the afternoon a severe thunderstorm moved south along the Kansas/Colorado border in Cheyenne County. The storm produced two tornadoes, one south of Arapahoe and another southeast of Cheyenne Wells. The tornado south of Arapahoe damaged a farm house and broke off trees nearby. South of the farm the tornado broke off three power poles. No damage was reported with the second tornado. The storm also produced hail up to baseball size and broke tree branches south of Arapahoe.
