A tornado touched down in the Spivey���s Corner area of northwest Sampson County. Damage there consisted of numerous snapped and uprooted trees, downed power poles and power lines, tossed outdoor furniture, and minor damage to the roof of at least one home. A group of four abandoned chicken houses were destroyed.

Another death(indirect)occurred when a 62 year old male collapsed after assisting an evacuee to safety.

Numerous trees and several power lines were blown down along a swath from the 6000 block of Maxwell Road, north of Autryville, to the intersection of Keener Road and Hobbton Highway, near Hobbton.

At approximately 4:38 PM EDT, a tornado touched down just west of |highway 24 on the west side of Autryville, where it produced tree |damage as well as destroying one mobile home and taking the roof off |of another near Mills Street and East Clinton Street. The tornado |then briefly lifted before descending again near the Autryville |Volunteer Fire Department, which was severely damaged as the garage doors |blew in, and ripped a large portion of roof off. Two of their fire engines and one fire truck were covered in rubble. The tornado lifted then touched down again on the northeast side of Autryville, near Johnson Tanner Lane, where several homes were |damaged. The tornado lifted again, doing little additional damage until touching down again near McGee Church Road, where it destroyed a vacant turkey house and snapped numerous trees and power poles. It then dissipated at approximately 5:17 PM EDT. There were no fatalities and only one minor injury reported.

A fatality also occurred when a tree fell onto a roof of the van and killed one occupant as they were traveling south on Reedsford Road. The strong winds also heavily damaged the tobacco crop.

Cyclic damage between EF1 to EF2 was observed with the most extensive damage observed between Bonnetsville Road and Clinton, including Bass Lake Road and Dixie Road. The tornado continued northeast, crossing Highways 421 and 701 on the north side of Clinton. A roof was completely blown off of a home on Isaac Weeks Road. As the tornado moved farther northeast, the tornado was mostly of Ef1 strength damage to homes were minor, with outbuildings and power poles bent or blown down. The tornado weakened and quickly lifted in the vicinity of Highway 403 and East Darden Road, with minor roof damage to a home. In total, there were 85 to 90 residential structures were damaged, with 25 destroyed; and 13 businesses damaged, with 3 destroyed.

Numerous trees were blown down countywide blocking many roads and highways. Widespread power outages were caused by the falling trees along with some minor property damage to roofs and small buildings.

Around a quarter of an inch of freezing rain in addition to 1 to 2 inches of snow fell across the area. Over 2000 power outages were reported along with a number of vehicle accidents.

Wind gusts in excess of 35 mph was observed throughout the county with many locations experiencing wind gusts in excess of 40 mph. Area electric utility companies reported widespread power outages from downed trees and limbs on power lines. The downed trees also resulted in numerous reports of damage to homes, and closed some local roads and interstates.
