Cookeville Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Several hours of severe non-thunderstorm winds resulted in numerous damage reports, including downed and uprooted trees, downed powerlines, and roof and other property damage across all of Putnam County. Damages are estimated.
A power pole and power lines were blown down across the road at 5795 Hilham Road.
A Facebook report indicated trees and power lines were blown down in Bloomington Springs.
Freezing rain brought ice accumulations up to 1/2 inch across Putnam County, resulting in dozens of downed trees, power lines, and power poles. Some trees, power lines, and power poles fell onto homes and blocked numerous roads. Parts of Putnam County were without electricity for up to 2 weeks. Damage estimates from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency reached 2.996 million dollars.
A large, hollow tree snapped and fell onto a power line on Highway 70 between Rock Springs Road and Stanton Road.

As a line of showers moved into northern portions of Middle Tennessee in assocition with an upper level low moving north into the upper Mississippi River Valley during the later evening hours, isolated embedded thunderstorms developed within this line of showers resulting in several downed trees and power lines in the city of Cookeville.
A cold front moved across middle Tennesee ushering in subfreezing temperatures to the mid state, especially the Cumberland Plateau, during the late evening hours that resulted in ice sticking on trees and power lines, leaving thousands without power to their homes and businesses.
