Tropical storm force wind gusts resulted in numerous trees and power lines down across the county. A roof was also blown off of a porch.

Freezing rain quickly accumulated on trees and power lines across the county. Widespread ice amounts of 0.30 to 0.40 inches were observed by mid-afternoon, with some additional light accumulations continuing into the evening. Numerous trees and power lines were downed by the weight of ice.

During the late evening, a severe thunderstorm was responsible for an extensive swath of significant damage across several counties in the southern portion of the NWS Jackson service area. The main corridor of focused and higher end wind damage was across southern Copiah to far southern Simpson, as well as all of northern sections of Lawrence, Jefferson Davis and Covington counties before dissipating across northwest Jones County. Based on a NWS damage survey of portions of this swath, along with accounts and assessments from local Emergency Managers, significant wind speeds across this swath ranged between 80 and 100 mph. Within the overall swath, there were generally 2 to 3 focused corridors, roughly running from west northwest to east southeast, where the greatest concentration of damage occurred. General dimensions of the swath can be described as roughly 80 miles long with a width of 6 to 8 miles where the greatest concentration of damage occurred. Damage across this large swath were primarily damaged trees and downed power lines. Tree damage was a combination of uprooted and snapped trees and was quite extensive and best characterized by hundreds of thousands of damaged trees. Downed power lines and broken poles were extensive as well across the swath. Additionally, many structures were damaged with degrees of damage from minor to major. All of this was due to a combination of the wind itself causing damage or by downed trees damaging the structure. In Copiah County, the strongest hit area included Stronghope community and points east towards the river and across Duckworth, Pearl Valley and Beasley Roads with both structural damage to houses and trees down.

During the early afternoon trees were blown down in Crystal Springs, Hopewell, and Hazelhurst. By late afternoon thirteen trees had been blown down in the county. After midnight a tree was blown down in the north bound lane of Interstate 55 west northwest of Wesson. By mid morning of the 30th fifty five trees had been blown down across the county. Six of those trees had fallen on power lines.

Sleet and freezing rain began falling across the county during the early afternoon hours. By 9:00pm a quarter inch of ice had accumulated on tree limbs, power lines and other elevated surfaces in Crystal Springs.

The tornado started along James Road, where several chicken houses were significantly damaged, including one collapsing. Other outbuildings were damaged and a number of trees and power lines were downed. Debris was carried for hundreds of yards along the path. The tornado traveled northeast, and reached its maximum intensity and width as it crossed Monticello Road. Hundreds of trees in this area were snapped or uprooted, including a number of large hardwoods. Convergence in the damage path was very apparent here. A barn was leveled and at least two power poles were snapped. A couple of other outbuildings were heavily damaged. The tornado continued northeast from there, crossing Perrett Road and Highway 472. Numerous trees continued to be snapped and uprooted along its path, and several outbuildings were damaged or destroyed. The tornado dissipated shortly after crossing Highway 472. This tornado was rated an EF2 with maximum winds of 115 mph.

Tropical storm force winds occurred across Copiah County as the outer edges of Hurricane Gustav moved across southern Louisiana. Scattered trees and a few power lines were blown down, especially across the southern half of the county. Wind gusts peaked between 45 and 50 mph for several hours.

An intense downburst occurred in Wesson where 80 to 90 mph winds were experienced. Four businesses were damaged, one had some of the roof torn off, and 4 homes were damaged. A couple vehicles were damaged as well. Numerous trees were blown down along with 8 power poles snapped. Many streets were blocked by downed trees and debris. One person was injured from the storm.

Tropical Storm Isidore moved onshore the Louisiana coast early in the morning of September 26. The weakening storm then moved northeast across eastern Mississippi during the day. The heavy rainfall associated with the storm resulted in significant river and flash flooding across much of Mississippi. Twenty-four hour rainfall totals between 5 and 10 inches were common over much of Mississippi, especially in the southern part of the state, where twenty-four hour amounts exceeded 9 inches near Hattiesburg. Gradient wind gusts between 35 and 45 miles per hour combined with the saturated ground to lead to numerous downed trees and powerlines over the state. Most of the damage was seen along and east of the Natchez Trace, near the path of the storm's diffuse center. One indirect fatality was reported just east of the Kalem community in Scott County. Here, a falling tree struck a truck driven by a 31 year-old male. damage from Isidore was an estimated $500,000.
