Defiance Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
Damaging thunderstorm winds moved from north to south across the western portions of St. Charles County. At the intersection of Highway T and Highway D, several power poles were snapped off. A large tree was blown down near the intersection of Lake St. Louis Boulevard and Locksley Manor Drive. A tree and power lines were knocked down near the intersection of Sonderen Street and E. Elm Street. Also, a large tree was blown down on to Highway 94 just northeast of Defiance.
Thunderstorm winds blew a large tree down onto power lines on Henning Road. Also, another tree was blown down onto the roadway just north of Defiance.
An enhanced area of wind damage was surveyed from 6 miles north-northwest of Marthasville (Warren County) to 1 mile north of Defiance (St. Charles County). The area of wind damage was roughly 3 miles wide and 20.5 miles long. Thousands of trees were either topped, snapped or uprooted in this swath. Many roads were blocked in this area due to fallen trees and power lines. There was also several outbuildings that lost roofs and residences that suffered minor damage. The wind is estimated to have been as high as 80 mph and lasted upward of 5 minutes according to eyewitness accounts.
