February 22, 2023 - Winter Weather

Periods of freezing rain led to light to moderate ice accretion on elevated surfaces. The combination of this ice accretion and gusty winds to around 35 mph led to some tree and power line damage across the county. Ice accretion of 0.22 inches was reported by the Defiance, OH ASOS station.

The emergency manager reported that multiple trees and power poles were down in the city.

December 11, 2021 - High Wind

Defiance ASOS reported a 59 mph wind gust during the 10 AM hour. A 45 KT wind gust was first observed during the 10 AM hour. Frequent gusts of 40 to 50 mph from west and northwest were observed in the area through the early afternoon. These wind gusts resulted in instances of tree damage and subsequent power outages.

January 1, 2021 - Winter Weather

Periods of freezing rain with temperatures near freezing accumulated to between 0.10 and 0.20 across the area on New Year's Day. This led to a few reports of tree limbs down and spotty power outages across the region. There were also reports of a few car accidents as roads were slick in spots.

The ASOS at the Defiance county airport recorded a 59 mph wind gust. Several reports of tree limbs being blown down were received, with some onto power lines.

February 22, 2023

Periods of freezing rain brought light to moderate ice accretions across portions of far northwest Ohio. Some icy road conditions were reported but the greatest impacts were from scattered downed trees and power lines due to ice accretion on elevated surfaces and gusty winds. Power outages were reported due to the downed trees and powerlines.

August 29, 2022

A squall line exited Indiana and moved through northwest Ohio. There were several damaging wind gusts reported as these storms moved through, damaging numerous power poles and trees. The top of a grain bin sustained damage as well.

This was a multi-round severe weather event. The first round started around 6pm with discrete cells and a few clusters moving from Knox, IN to Hillsdale, MI until around 9pm. The second round featured additional isolated development along a boundary draped across the northern CWA 9P-1A. The third round associated with the primary cold front swept across the CWA 1AM-5AM.||The severe weather across northwest Ohio occured during the second round of storms and was limited to wind damage that resulted in many trees and power lines downed.

Freezing rain and sleet, in combination with gusty winds, created difficult travel and scattered power outages on December 28th. Ice accretions between 0.05 inches and 0.20 inches were common.
