A deepening low pressure system over the Northern Plains moved northeast across the Northland late on the 24th. Fueled by strong southerly flow, the thunderstorm complex began to bow as the cold front advanced to the east. This line of storms produced damaging winds which lead to many trees downed and power outages across northern Minnesota.

Multiple rounds of storms were observed across northeastern Minnesota the afternoon of the 23rd into the early morning hours of the 24th. The first round developed in association with a warm front during the afternoon hours of the 23rd and produced damaging wind gusts leading to downed trees and power lines. The second round developed during the early morning hours of the 24th and led to a few isolated reports of tree damage and a measured gust to 62 mph at the Duluth Airport.

Two rounds of storms affected the Northland on the 5th with a complex during the morning hours producing wind damage followed by additional development during the afternoon hours as the cold front moved through. Morning storms produced areas of tree damage and downed power lines from the Leech Lake area eastward to the I-35 corridor with recorded gusts of 61 and 62 mph at area airports. After the first complex of storms moved through, conditions again became unstable ahead of the advancing cold front. Additional storms developed ahead of the front, but did not mature and become severe until they crossed into Wisconsin.

Storms developed ahead of a cold front moving across northern Minnesota on the afternoon of the 26th. These storms contained large hail and damaging wind gusts as they moved across the Minnesota Arrowhead with hail reports up to ping pong ball-sized and trees and power lines downed due to the winds. The storms remained severe as they moved over western Lake Superior and across the Bayfield Peninsula of northwestern Wisconsin.

A line of thunderstorms began in western North Dakota early in the evening of June 28th and then swept into northern Minnesota during the early morning hours of the 29th. While there were a few hail reports, this line was primarily a damaging wind producer and featured a measured gust to 80 mph. Numerous trees were damaged by the storms and fell onto homes and power lines.The storms continued to produce strong winds over the open waters of Lake Superior, but weakened to the south as they moved into northwestern Wisconsin.

A very moist and unstable airmass was in place ahead of a shortwave and low-level convergence moving into the area. This lead to storms during the afternoon and evening hours that produced numerous reports of downed trees and power lines due to strong winds along with small hail with the heaviest hit areas stretching from the Brainerd Lakes area to the Iron Range. Power outages from this event lasted for over a day in some areas following the storms.

Severe thunderstorms developed across portions of northeast Minnesota the evening of the 21st of September and continued across the region into the early morning hours of the 22nd. Several large trees were knocked down along with nearby powerlines. A cupola was blown off of a bar and hail as large as an inch fell.

A series of severe thunderstorms moved across portions of northeast Minnesota. The storms caused very gusty winds that led to numerous reports of blown down trees blocking roads and bringing down nearby power lines. A few buildings were also damaged by downed trees. Severe hail was also reported. Preliminary damage estimates across Cass County were at $64,000 which included $45,000 damage sustained by Crow Wing Power, city of Lake Shore with $10,000, Loon Lake Township at $5,000 and Fairview Township at $4,000. Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton authorized $351,000 to both Cass and Crow Wing Counties for recovery efforts.

Severe thunderstorms that rolled across Minnesota produced damaging winds and hail across multiple counties. Several trees were blown down, damaging power lines and in one case, a home. The storms also contained hail, with the largest the size of golf balls.||One thunderstorm that developed in Ontario produced a long-tracked tornado that tracked from near McEwen Lake in the wilderness of Quetico Provincial Park for about 7.6 miles and another 0.9 miles into the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area of northern Minnesota before dissipating. Not only is there satellite evidence of the tornado's path through the wilderness, but Environment Canada conducted a storm survey of the damage. The Canadians rated the damage as high as EF-2 in Canada, and the damage on the short segment into Minnesota as EF-1. The tornado lasted about 17 minutes from its beginning to Canada to its end in Minnesota.

An evening cluster of storms in eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota moved into northeast Minnesota overnight and into the early morning. Bow echoes within the cluster of storms caused damaging winds parts of central and northeast Minnesota. Among the hardest hit areas were the Brainerd, Gull Lake, and Nisswa areas where many trees and power lines were blown down. A Minnesota icon, a 3-ton statue of Babe the Blue Ox at Paul Bunyan Land east of Brainerd, was toppled over by the winds. There was tree and tent damage at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds in Brainerd. The damage suggested widespread sustained wind speeds of 70 to 90 mph. Another hard hit area was the Twig community west-northwest of Duluth, where another bowing storm brought 70 to 90 mph through the area that brought down many trees and power lines.

A cluster of thunderstorms developed over eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota the evening of Wednesday July 20th. The outflow from the storms coalesced into a couple of main bow echoes that quickly sped across northeast and central Minnesota during the wee hours of the morning of Thursday July 21st. The multi-bow storm quickly spread across northern and central Minnesota in the hours before sunrise, causing extensive damage across the region from widespread straight-line winds of 60 to 80 mph. One of the hardest hit areas was Duluth, with a couple wind gust reports around 100 mph. The bow echo that moved through far northern Minnesota killed two people in Quetico Provincial Park, only about 1 mile into Canada from the Boundary Waters Wilderness area of far northern Minnesota. Power was out to 75,000 customers. many homes were without power for as long as a week. lost power because of so many downed power lines. One hundred power poles were damaged and needed replacing. Minnesota Power, the main provider of power in northeast Minnesota, described the storm and its resulting devastation in Duluth, as the worst in at least a half century.

Southerly winds brought hot and muggy weather conditions to the northern Plains and Upper Midwest, including northeast Minnesota, on Monday (July 21st). A low pressure system was located in north central South Dakota by Monday evening, and its stationary front extended to the northeast through eastern North Dakota and Northwest Wisconsin. Temperatures were in the middle 80s to low 90s in the warm sector, and the combination of dew point temperatures in the upper 60s to middle 70s resulted in heat indices in the 90s to 100s. Thunderstorms developed during the late afternoon and early evening in western North Dakota and formed a mesoscale convective complex. This MCV then became a derecho Monday evening as it moved and bowed east through eastern North Dakota and the northern Minnesota and northern Wisconsin late Monday and early Tuesday (July 22nd). This derecho caused widespread wind damage from winds of at least 50 to 70 mph over much of northeast Minnesota, blowing and/or snapping trees and knocking out power. There were more focused areas of structural damage that suggested there were winds in excess of 70 mph. There were several injuries to campers in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness due to falling trees, which required officials to make some rescues.

A severe thunderstorm produced a wind gust around at least 60 mph near the Endion neighborhood of Duluth, which broke a tree and knocked down power lines.

A slow-moving warm front across central Minnesota on July 2nd moved through northeast Minnesota during that night. A cluster of severe thunderstorms developed across north-central Minnesota during the early evening of the 2ndand moved east through southern parts of the Iron Range and weakened as it spread into the Duluth area later on that night. Widespread wind damage occurred with numerous downed trees. Thousands of customers were without power; some for many days. A 49 year-old man drowned when the boat he was fishing from on Swan Lake capsized in the high wind and waves. The highest measured gust with the storms was 61 mph at Cass Lake, however, unofficial reports put the wind gusts near 80 mph. The hardest hit area was in northern Cass County and Itasca County, along the U. S. Highway 2 corridor.

A significant, widespread severe weather outbreak occurred across a large portion of central and east central Minnesota. A powerful mid summer storm system over the western Dakotas, combined with warm moist air surging northward from the Gulf of Mexico, provided the ingredients for tornadoes, destructive winds, and large hail across parts of the Northland. ||In addition, several storms in the Cass Lake and Lake Winnibigoshish area of north central Minnesota produced a large amount of one to two inch diameter hail, which is about quarter to slightly larger than golf ball size.
