Severe thunderstorms knocked down trees and lines in two areas of Northampton County. The first was across the northeast corridor from Bushkill Township northeast through Wind Gap, Plainfield Township and Bangor. The second area extended from Palmer Township southeast into Easton. In Palmer Township, a large tree split in half and outdoor furniture was tossed from the porch of one home. The combination of damaging winds and lightning caused about 5,000 Pennsylvania Power and Light homes and businesses to lose power in Northampton County. Metropolitan Edison reported about 12,000 homes and businesses lost power in their service area including Northampton County. All power was restored by the evening of the 11th.

August 8, 2007 - Thunderstorm Wind

A pair of severe thunderstorms caused wind damage across Northampton County from Moore Township east through Forks Township. About 8,000 homes and businesses lost power. Seven hundred still did not have power as of Noon EDT on the 8th. Wind damage occurred in Wind Gap, Moore, Plainfield, Nazareth, Washington and Forks Townships. Pennsylvania State Route 191 was closed in Plainfield Township because of downed trees. Community Drive in Moore Township was also closed because of a downed tree.

A severe thunderstorm caused widespread tree damage across east central Northampton County and affected the city of Easton, West Easton Borough, Wilson Borough and Forks and Palmer Townships the hardest. Dozens of roadways were closed because of downed trees. About 22,500 homes and businesses lost power in the county and it took until the evening of the 12th for power to be fully restored. ||Wilson Borough declared a borough disaster because about three-quarters of the borough lost power. Several homes and vehicles were struck by downed trees. Many trees were knocked down on Washington Boulevard. One roadway remained closed until the 13th. In Easton, the College Hill section of the city was hit the hardest. A large tree crashed onto a home on Cattell Street. Another home had a tree limb go through its roof. At least two vehicles were damaged by downed trees. One street light was damaged by a downed tree. Two large trees (at least 80 feet tall) were knocked down in Hugh Moore Park. In Forks Township, many properties suffered some tree damage. The worst reported damage occurred on Old Mill Road where the carport of one home was uprooted, thrown across power lines and split, then landed onto and badly damaged an above ground pool. Power lines were also bent on Old Mill Road. On Richmond Avenue, a chimney and a garage roof were damaged by the winds. One tree also fell onto a home. Another fell onto a vehicle. Damage in West Easton and Palmer Township was mainly just to the trees. The clean-up was expected to take weeks.
