Episodes
Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms continued to develop throughout the day across Northcentral Louisiana as they rotated west southwest around a slow moving upper level storm system off of the Mississippi and Alabama coasts. Isolated strong thunderstorms continued during the evening across Southeast Arkansas, which moved southwest into Eastern Union Parish and briefly became severe as they moved through the Marion community. A microburst resulted in damaging winds which blew down a large tree onto power lines and a nearby vehicle. The storm weakened shortly after it exited Marion.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms developed over portions of Southcentral Arkansas and Northcentral Louisiana during the late afternoon and early evening hours, as heating and instability interacted with a residual outflow boundary from a complex of showers and thunderstorms that diminished over Central and Southwest Arkansas earlier that morning. One thunderstorm briefly became severe in Union Parish near Farmerville, with damaging winds downing power lines near Lake D'Arbonne. These storms diminished during the evening hours with the loss of heating and instability.
A cold arctic airmass filtered into the region in the preceding days of January 11th with temperatures mostly in the lower 30s. An overrunning moist airmass resulted in the development of mostly light rain across Southeast Oklahoma, Southwest Arkansas, the Northern third of Northeast Texas as well as Claiborne and Union Parishes in North Central Louisiana. After midnight on the 11th, this precipitation became light freezing rain but due to the temperature being at or just below freezing, ice accumulation was relegated to trees and elevated exposed objects including powerlines and some bridge surfaces. Ice accumulations were mostly near one tenth of an inch across the region.
