Power Outage in Farmington, MO

Thunderstorm winds blew down several power lines at the intersection of Highway 8 and Harmon Road. Also, several large tree limbs were blown down on the southwest side of Park Hills.

Widespread wind damage occurred across St. Francois County. In Iron Mountain, a large tree was snapped. On Highway M, about a mile southwest of Frankclay, a large was blown over onto the highway. In Park Hills and Bonne Terre, large trees were blown over onto houses causing moderate roof damage. Otherwise, numerous tree limbs as well as several large trees and power poles were blown down in Farmington, Desloge and Leadwood. No injuries were reported.

In Farmington, two mobile homes were destroyed by fallen trees. Fortunately neither mobile home was occupied. One person had to be rescued from a vehicle that a tree had fallen on. No injuries were reported.

A semi was blown over just north of Park Hills on U.S. Highway 67. No one was injured in the incident.

The story was similar in Bonne Terre and the west parts of Farmington where downed trees and limbs blocked several streets. A couple of cars in Farmington were damage by downed limbs. Power was out throughout the area.

Lightning was believed to be the cause of a fire at the Presbyterian Manor residential facility. The fire was limited to some insulation and trusses in the attic but the strike also damaged the telephone and computer system. In Farmington, thunderstorm wind gusts downed scattered large tree limbs and power lines.

Local officials reported scattered trees and power lines down in Bonne Terre, Desloge and Park Hills. Over 2000 people were still without power by the next morning.

A fast moving winter storm put a coating of ice on a portion of southeast Missouri. The freezing rain changed over to sleet and snow leaving 2 to 3 inches of snow on top of the ice. Trees and power lines were down throughout the area. Transportation was brought to a halt from the evening of the 21st through the 22nd.
