Power Outage in Fayetteville, GA

Report of trees and power lines down at Beauregard St and Grady Avenue.

The Fayette County Emergency Manager reported trees and power lines blown down from around the intersection of Farr Road and E. Crestwood Road in Tyrone to around the intersection of Highway 92 and Hickory Road in Fayetteville.

The Fayette County 911 center reported trees and power lines blown down on the northeast side of Fayetteville from around McDonough Road and Zoie Court to Allenwood Road.

Local law enforcement, National Weather Service employees and the public reported numerous trees and power lines blown down across the county.

The Fayette County 911 center reported trees and power lines blown down on Poplar Way and on Gilbert Road around Fayetteville.

Off-duty National Weather Service employees reported wind gusts to 60 MPH that blew siding off of a house on Otter Circle in Fayetteville. Thunderstorm winds also blew down trees and power lines on Morgan Mill Road and Malone Road between Brooks and Lake Horton as well as at the intersection of Robinson and Redwine Roads and in the Woodcreek subdivision in Peachtree City.

The Fayette County Emergency Manager reported that numerous power lines were blown down along Highway 85. Roofs were blown off five buildings at a U-Haul facility in the 1500 block of North Highway 85. Vehicles in the parking lot were also damaged.

The Fayette County Emergency Manager reported that a few trees and a few power lines were blown down between Highway 74 and Highway 85 between approximately Tyrone and Fayetteville. One tree fell on a barn, trapping a donkey inside.

The Fayette County 911 Center reported that two trees and four to five power lines were down near the downtown square in Fayetteville.

The Fayette County 911 Center reported that several dozen trees and power lines were down across the entire county. Up to 45,000 residents of the county were left without power for several hours, in some cases well into the next morning. The 911 Center estimated that 70 percent of the damage was across the northern part of the county with 30 percent in the southern part. Several roads were blocked from downed trees as well, including parts of Georgia Highways 85 and 92 near and just south of Fayetteville. There were no reports of structural damage, however.

The Fayette County 911 Center reported that a number of trees and power lines were down across the northern portion of the county from north of Peachtree City to northwest of Fayetteville.

The public reported that four trees were down in the Wilshire Estates area of Peachtree City. In addition, several trees and a couple of power lines were down south of Fayeteville off Antioch Road.

The Fayette County Emergency Management Director reported that a couple of trees were down on power lines on Merrydale Road southeast of Fayetteville.

The Fayette County Emergency Management Director reported that lightning struck two homes and set them on fire, one southeast of Fayetteville on Wyonia Way of Hilo Road and the other northwest of Fayetteville on Bankstown Road. Both homes were declared a total loss. Two other homes were also struck by lightning, but no damage was reported. At least one transformer fire resulted as a result of a lightning strike and several power outages were reported in the Fayetteville area as a result of lightning strikes.

A National Weather Service damage survey team determined that an F0 tornado touched down approximately two miles southeast of Fayetteville near Hilo Road and traveled on the ground approximately one mile to the north, terminating near Jeff Davis in southeast Fayetteville. Hundreds of trees were blown down, twisted, and uprooted along the path of the tornado, many causing damage to dozens of homes and vehicles. Trees fell through the roof of several homes. A couple of businesses in southeast Fayetteville reported extensive damage, with the roof blown off one building on Highway 85 Parkway. The tornado combined with other thunderstorm wind events in the county during the evening resulted in up to 50 percent of the county being without power for several hours during the evening. The tornado path length was determined to be one mile and the path width one-quarter mile.

The Fayette County Emergency Manager reported that two separate lightning strikes caused damage. One lightning strike occurred at a vacuum store in the Fayette Pavillion Shopping Center in north Fayette county where a lightning strike caused an estimated $5000 in damages to electrical circuitry in the store. The other incident occurred in Fayetteville where lightning struck a power line and left 65 homes without power. Estimated damages to the power lines was $15,000.

The Fayette county Emergency Management Director reported that several power lines were brought down by high winds and/or trees being blown down onto the power lines between the Fulton/Fayette county line on Georgia Highway 92 to just northwest of Fayetteville. In addition, one of the downed trees took out a gas meter and caused a gas leak.

The Fayette county 911 center and the public reported that numerous trees were blown down just west of the downtown square. One power line was down as well. Tree limbs were reported down on Walker Street.

The Atlanta Journal and Constitution, the Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services, and the public reported numerous trees and power lines down across the northwest part of Fayette county. An Amoco gas station was damaged in far northwest Fayette county on Georgia Highway 92 near the Fulton county line when its canopy was torn off. The debris from the canopy caused minor damage to a nearby home.

The Fayette county 911 center and the public reported trees and power lines down along Harp Road south of Fayetteville in the Surrey Park subdivision, where a basketball goal was also reported down. On Hilo Road, about 3 miles southeast of Fayetteville, several large tree limbs were blown down. Further south, trees were also down near Starrs Mill.
