Power Outage in Flagstaff, AZ

A tornado touched down about 8 miles west-northwest of Williams in the Junipine Estates neighborhood. Ten 10 structures were damaged and or destroyed (homes and outbuildings). One power poll was blown down and the power was out in the entire community. Camping trailers/mobile homes were turn over. Some rooves were blown off houses.

A thunderstorm produce damaging winds in the Page area. The hanger at the Page Airport was damaged. The Jet Center windows were blown out by the winds. A few trees were uprooted. The Page ASOS recorded a peak wind gust of 56 MPH at 1238 PM MST. ||Multiple homes in the Champan Village area were damaged by flying debris and falling trees. Two power poles were destroyed when wind blown trees fell on them. This caused power outages in the area.

Between one and 1.25 inches of rain fell across the Doney Park area of far northeast Flagstaff in under 50 minutes. The power was also knocked out by the storm. Wind gusts to 45 MPH and half inch hail was also reported.

Heavy rain from a thunderstorm closed the intersection of Dupont and Leroux. Flooding was also reported at Agassiz St and Rt 66. Lightning strikes caused power outages in Downtown Flagstaff. 1/4 inch hail was reported on the NAU Campus.

Baseball to soft ball sized rocks were washed across some roads, a culvert was plugged with rocks/debris, some residents lost power, and the flooding cut new channels through previous alluvial fans. County and city crews worked for over two hours to clean and open roads.

This tornado caused extensive forest damage (primarily south of Bellemont), along a discontinuous track which extended from 15 miles south of Bellemont, eventually crossing Hwy 180 northwest of Flagstaff. The path of this tornado was parallel to, and approximately 1 mile west of Tornado #2. Very wide, severe and complete forest damage occurred in the forest south of Bellemont. Tornado visually sighted by NWS staff at the Bellemont Weather Forecast Office.||Tornado passed 1/3 mile west of the NWS Bellemont Weather Forecast office. Additional damage stats include:|-28 rail cars derailed in Bellemont.|-Semi trucks and trailers were overturned on I-40.|-Power poles and numerous trees snapped on Camp Navajo. Some structures damaged.|-Numerous forest roads blocked and campers were stranded by fallen trees.

Heavy rain caused flooding across the southeast parts of the Northern Arizona University. Water entered several buildings and flooded parking lots with close to three feet of water. An electric substation was flooded and caused a power outage.

Lightning started a forest fire about 3 miles north of Winona (16 miles east of Flagstaff) on July 24. The Power Fire burned about 1500 acers in pinyon and juniper trees and grassland. Air tankers, helicopters, and about 70 people contained the fire by the evening of July 27.
