UPDATE 1-U.S. natgas drops 6% on less cold weather, focus on Freeport LNG

At least four vessels were already lined up to pick up LNG at Freeport, according to Refinitiv data. Front-month gas futures rose 40.7 cents, or 7.1%, to $6.121 per million British thermal units (mmBtu) at 8:06 a.m. EDT (1206 GMT).

Major LNG outages include Berkshire Hathaway Energy's shutdown on Oct. 1 of its 0.8 billion-cubic-feet-per-day (bcfd) Cove Point LNG export plant in Maryland for about three weeks of planned maintenance and the shutdown of Freeport LNG's 2.0-bcfd plant in Texas for unplanned work after an explosion on June 8. Freeport expects the facility to return to at least partial service in early to mid-November. At least three vessels were heading to Freeport, according to Refinitiv data, including Prism Brilliance (currently located off the coast from the plant), Prism Diversity (expected to arrive Oct. 27) and Seapeak Methane (Nov. 22).

U.S. natural gas futures on Tuesday held near a three-month low on near record output and forecasts for continued milder-than-normal weather that will allow utilities to keep injecting more gas into storage than usual in coming weeks. Recent drops in demand from storm-related power outages and reduced liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports have also weighed on gas prices. Gas demand was also reduced by outages at LNG export plants, including Berkshire Hathaway Energy's 0.8-billion-cubic-feet-per-day (bcfd) Cove Point in Maryland for about three weeks of planned work starting Oct. 1 and Freeport LNG's 2.0-bcfd plant in Texas for unplanned work after an explosion on June 8.
