Frenchburg Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
County dispatch reported that a tree was blown down and blocked one lane of KY-1274. Another tree was blown down onto power lines at the intersection of Sulphur Springs and Cope Ridge roads.
Periods of moderate to heavy snow occurred during the afternoon and evening hour of the 16th. A twitter report showed 5.5 inches of accumulation at Means shortly after 11 PM. Power outages due to heavy wet snow occurred in the county.
A tree fell on power lines in the town of Frenchburg.
Winds from a microburst, estimated at 100 to 110 mph, felled numerous trees and large branches in and just northeast of Frenchburg. The damage began just east of Kentucky Highway 36 near the water treatment plant, and ended east of Highway 36 near a salt storage structure, where the thick tarp covering of the structure was damaged. Some damage was also noted just west of Highway 36, including downed power lines resulting in the closure of the highway for several hours. Some shingles were blown off of a small shed, and metal roofing was peeled off of the roof of a house. The most intense damage occurred along a 125 yard stretch just south of Sorrell Road to Beaver Creek, where estimated winds of 100 to 110 mph broke trunks and uprooted several hardwood trees.
