66 hrs now of no power. But across the street is lit up like a Christmas tree. Not happy

Karen | February 17, 2021

I have been without power for 14 hours. This is ridiculous

Mark Honsaker | February 15, 2021

Face Palm, be a little respectful to Marie Valenzuela. The electric companies have the ability to suddenly turn the power off then why in the world would they not be able to turn it off? Unless powerlines had been knocked down. Mainly, Texas is doing to conserve energy. Texas definitely uses more energy in the summer heat and we don't get power turned off all night and day.

A Panesar | February 15, 2021

Marie, they KNOW where the power is out. You don't need to notify them. Chill the fuck out. They have intentionally shut off power to 90% of the hour due to power generation issues. EVERYONE is out and Centerpoint is aware. You aren't a special snowflake that needs to personally notify. When they're ready to turn it back on then power will be back on to your entire area.

Face Palm | February 15, 2021

Face Palm, thank you for your insight I really appreciate it. However, I feel they should at least have the ability to allow us to report or outage. I have not been able to report it via phone nor via Internet. Utility Service should at least have a call center or a means to report outages real time!!

Power Outage FAQs

What is Power Outage?

Power outage (also called a power cut, a power blackout, power failure or a blackout) is a short-term or a long-term loss of the electric power to a particular area.

What Causes Power Outages?

  • Severe weather (high winds, lightning, winter storms, heat waves, rain or flooding can cause damage to power lines or equipment);
  • Other damage to electric transmission lines (vehicle accidents, trees, and animals can cause damage to power lines or equipment);
  • Repairing, maintenance or upgrades on power lines and equipment.

What are the Top Outage Safety Tips?

  • Stay away from the downed power lines, park vehicles in protected areas;
  • Unplug appliances and electronics, limit cell phone use to conserve battery life;
  • Use portable generators outdoors only, well away from open windows and doors;
  • Pack perishable foods into a cooler, keep refrigerator and freezer doors shut as much as possible.
