Pulse severe storms developed during the late afternoon hours along the I-85 corridor over Upstate South Carolina. The storms knocked down trees and power lines and produced a little small hail.
Several reports of trees and power lines down in northern Greenville county, with up to 3000 people without power. Also, a boat was capsized on Lake Robinson, and a tree fell on a home near the Syland community 6 miles ESE of Tigerville.
Several trees and power lines were blown down. Also, lightning ignited fires at an apartment complex, causing significant damage to one unit, and moderate damage to two others.
A line of showers and thunderstorms moved east across the Upstate during the evening hours. A few segments in that line became severe, producing damaging straight-line winds. The winds caused trees and power lines to fall, and resulted in minor structural damage.
Thunderstorms developed in a very warm and unstable airmass throughout the afternoon. Several storms became severe and produced damaging microburst winds and large hail up to one and half inches in diameter. Several metal Leonard-type buildings were destroyed, portable equipment was blown around and damaged, and the air traffic control tower was damaged at Donaldson Center. Outside Fountain Inn a porch, garage, and roof were damaged by the wind. Elsewhere, numerous trees and power lines were downed.
