Greenwood Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
An NWS survey team observed a broad, intense area of severe straight line winds. Some of the most intense winds extended from an area near Greenwood to the east and southeast, impacting Murdock, Louisville, Manley, and other areas. Most of the damage was snapped trees and power poles, but there was also damage to buildings and grain bins. This large downburst area was several miles wide and frequently had 60 to 80 mph winds with some locations experiencing gusts to nearly 100 mph. There was a also a 2.2 mile long tornado track within the severe wind area, but aside from that track the vast majority of damage was from a west to east or northwest to southeast direction.
Thunderstorm winds estimated at 80 mph caused extensive tree and other damage around the Greenwood area. The most damage was reported from a few miles south through just northeast of town. A roof was blown off of a section of a motel near the I-80 exchange south of town, numerous trees and power lines were downed around the area and a large barn was blown down just northeast of Greenwood. The thunderstorm was accompanied by hail up to golfball size which covered the ground.

Power has been out since 6:30 am and an hour later, still no power. Being situated across the street from Walmart, it’s odd for the power to be out so long. 20 degree temps are not helping.
My power went out every 5 minutes and stayed out for 5 minutes all night, until 6am then it went out completely and is still off.
Woke up at 5:15 and it thought, “who turned the heat down”. Went to then on light—-no power. Literally a minute later the power came back, lights, heat, etc came on. I went downstairs to check a light timer. Actual time was 5:20. Rotary dial timer, which had been set to the correct time, was showing shortly before 2am. A little over 3 hours....?
East Greenwood keeps having consistent power flickers every 40 minutes or so that last about 10 to 20 seconds
My power has gone out for the 6th time tonight.
