Episodes
Precipitation that initially began as a mixture of rain and sleet transitioned to freezing rain as temperatures cooled to freezing and below across the southern South Carolina Piedmont. Freezing rain continued through the afternoon and evening, with accumulations primarily confined to elevated surfaces, including trees and power lines. Damaging ice accumulations were reported by late evening. Widespread ice accretion of one quarter to one half inch was reported, resulting in many trees and power lines falling and numerous to widespread power outages.
High winds developed around noon across the Upstate, and continued through the afternoon hours. Numerous trees and power lines were blown down, some onto vehicles. At least one tree fell on and damaged a home in Greenwood County.
Damaging winds from an isolated severe thunderstorm blew down a tree onto a fence, crushing it, and causing a security problem at a girls school. Power was also knocked out in the same area.
Severe thunderstorms produced damaging wind, frequent lightning and very heavy rain across the far southern part of the Upstate. One light pole was blown onto a car in Greenwood. In addition, 2.68 inches of rain fell in a short time to cause brief urban flooding. Lightning knocked out power to over 1000 customers. Trees were blown down southeast of Abbeville.
Thunderstorms developed across the Upstate during the early evening. One became severe in Oconee county and produced two brief small tornadoes. In Westminster, a small section of the roof of a store was torn off. Siding was blown off of one house and another house was damaged. Several trees and power lines were also downed in the same area. About 20 minutes later, the same storm spun up another weak tornado which downed trees on property in Tamassee. A trained spotter observed a funnel cloud nine minutes prior west of Walhalla. Late in the evening lightning caused a fire which burned down a garage in Ninety-Six.

Power has been out since 6:30 am and an hour later, still no power. Being situated across the street from Walmart, it’s odd for the power to be out so long. 20 degree temps are not helping.
My power went out every 5 minutes and stayed out for 5 minutes all night, until 6am then it went out completely and is still off.
Woke up at 5:15 and it thought, “who turned the heat down”. Went to then on light—-no power. Literally a minute later the power came back, lights, heat, etc came on. I went downstairs to check a light timer. Actual time was 5:20. Rotary dial timer, which had been set to the correct time, was showing shortly before 2am. A little over 3 hours....?
East Greenwood keeps having consistent power flickers every 40 minutes or so that last about 10 to 20 seconds
My power has gone out for the 6th time tonight.
