Police reported 1.5 inch hail and power lines down.
A storm spotter observed the tornado develop just south of Highway 12 and then cross the highway toward the northeast. The tornado then damaged multiple center pivot irrigation systems, grain bins, and snapped several power poles in a pattern consistent with the tornado path. A tornado debris signature was also evident on radar after the tornado had dissipated.
Widespread damaging winds were observed throughout the county. Winds were measured just outside the county of 73 mph at Yankton, South Dakota. Within Cedar County trees were powerlines were reported downed.
Thunderstorm wind gusts estimated at least 60 mph caused extensive damage in south Yankton. Numerous tree limbs and power lines were downed by the storm. There was also structural damage to Riverside Auto Body. Here the roof was removed, and a number of storage units were destroyed. Damage was scattered for a half block downstream from the site.
