Wind gusts ranged from 45 to 50 mph across the county. These winds resulted in scattered downed trees and power lines. In addition, rainfall averaged 3 to 5 inches.

A trained spotter reported 50 mph winds, large limbs down, and a power line down with a possible blown transformer.

Hurricane Matthew moved up the eastern seaboard, bringing very heavy rain and strong winds. Rainfall amounts ranged from five to nearly seven inches. Tropical storm force winds and flooded ground caused widespread tree and power line damage. Two churches were severely damaged by fallen trees in the communities of South Hartsville and Lamar. About twenty-eight homes sustained major structural damage or were completely destroyed. Flooding resulted in numerous road closures primarily due to creek and stream overflows. Numerous roadways suffered washouts. Many private wells were contaminated from the flooding.

Power lines were reportedly down and across Indian Branch Road and Bethel Road.

A National Weather Service Storm Survey team found evidence of an EF-0 tornado with winds to 75 mph. Two chicken houses were damaged and one other was partially destroyed off of U.S. Highway 401 near the intersection of Lynches River Road. A trailer near U.S. Highway 401 and West Lynches River Road sustained damage to its underpinning. Two disease ridden trees alongside the trailer were snapped. The tornado crossed U.S. Highway 401 knocking down numerous trees. The tornado knocked down more trees which in turn toppled a nearby power pole and power line as it crossed West Lynches Road and lifted. A piece of sheet metal from a chicken house was found 1.75 miles away, in a field off of Hudson Street.

Ice accumulations around the county ranged from a few hundredths of an inch over the southern portion, to around a quarter inch over the northern portion. There were multiple trees down across the county, with numerous power outages.

Two trees were reportedly down across power lines. The tree trunks were about 15 inches in diameter. The tin roof of a barn was peeled off and blown into a tree.

A mixture of snow and sleet began falling the afternoon of Jan 28th, changed over to mostly snow in the overnight hours, and tapered off to flurries the morning of the 29th. Total snow and sleet accumulations ranged from one and a half to two and a half inches. Due to the nature of the precipitation, power outages were isolated, however driving was treacherous. Numerous traffic accidents were reported as well as injuries due to slips and falls.

Trees and power lines were reported down on Gandy Siding Road near the intersection with Running Brook Road.

Several power lines were reported down on Spring Valley Road. Minor structural damage was also reported. The time was estimated by radar.

Nine power poles were reported down near Highway 15 and Snow Hill Road. Several pine trees were also snapped near their tops.

Several large trees were reportedly down. Some of the trees took down power lines as they fell to the ground. The damage occurred at the intersection of Kellybelle Road and Tema Road.

Up to a third of an inch of ice accumulated over Darlington County, with thousands of residents without power.

A few large trees were reportedly uprooted. Some trees were down across power lines.

A large pine tree was uprooted and fell across the road. Power lines were reported down. Traffic was blocked on North Center Road between Swift Creek Road and Billy Farrow Highway. The report was relayed via the Darlington County Fire District.

Numerous large trees were down. Trees fell onto a house and a mobile home causing minor damage. Power lines were also down. The damage was located mainly between Leavensworth Road and Lazy Pines Road. A National Weather Service Storm Survey concluded that the damage was the result of straight-line winds. Winds were estimated at up to 65 mph.

Strong storms produced half dollar size hail over a wide area. In addition to large hail, strong winds blew an ornamental pear tree down and a camper shell was blown across the roadway. Power lines were also blown down.

Snow fell over most of northeast South Carolina, with between a half inch to near 2 inches reported by spotters, coop observers and law enforcement. The snowstorm caused most business to close, and all school districts decided to close their doors for the day. Damages were a result of traffic accidents, with nearly 60 wrecks reported the northeast portion of the state. Record cold air plunged into the state that evening, causing numerous reports of frozen water pipes. The local electric company reported record power usage the following morning due to temperatures in the teens in most areas with wind chills near or below zero.

Around a tenth of an inch of frozen precipitation was observed, knocking down limbs and causing power outages. Only a few minor traffic accidents were noted. Strong high pressure over the mid-Atlantic fed a shallow layer of cold air across interior portions of the state. Low pressure formed over the Gulf coast, spreading moisture over the Carolinas. The result was freezing rain.

Darlington Police Department reported a power pole and 4-5 trees down.

Police reported 4-5 trees down along with a downed power pole in the area of Oats and Hartsville.

Powerful low pressure moved across Kentucky and created an environment favorable for tornado development. Clusters of thunderstorms developed during the evening hours and persisted overnight. The atmosphere was moderately unstable and strongly sheared.

Freezing rain accumulated on grass, roads, and trees, causing numerous power outages.
