Hickory Power Outages Caused by Weather
Events
A line of severe thunderstorms brought damaging winds to central Newton County. Numerous trees were blown down and glass was blown out of a building. Trees and power lines were also blown down in Hickory.
As a severe thunderstorm move from southeast to northwest across the east central part of Newton County, it produced wind damage. Trees were blown down in southeast Newton County. There were trees and power lines down and damage to some buildings around Hickory. A tree was blown down near the intersection of Highway 503 and Hurst Road. There were several trees blown down and roof damage to an outbuilding between Hickory and Decatur.
Trees and powerlines were blown down along Highway 80 in Hickory.
This tornado touched down just west of Highway 15 and tracked northeast across Highway 15 and Highway 504 damaging two homes and a mobile home. The tornado continued northeast across Shelby Road and Garvin Road, damaging the roof of a home and destroying two chicken houses. The most intense damage along the path was to the chicken houses. Numerous trees and power poles were snapped throughout its path before it dissipated near Brand Road. Maximum EF1 winds were 110 mph.
Numerous trees were blown down across the county. Trees were blown onto power lines just east of Hickory. The roof of a church was damaged just south of Decatur, and pea size hail fell east of Decatur.
