A severe thunderstorm tore down several trees and wires across the northern tier of Delaware. About 16,000 homes and businesses lost power in New Castle County. Half of them were still without power at 9 p.m. EDT that evening.

July 24, 2009 - Thunderstorm Wind

A severe thunderstorm knocked down trees and wires in northwestern New Castle County and hit the Hockessin area of Mill Creek Hundred the hardest. Millcreek Road and Evanson Road were closed because of downed trees. About 10,000 homes and businesses lost power in the county, about 125 were still without power the night of the 25th.
