Recent Weather Related Causes of Power Outages in Calhoun County
Tornado. This was the first and strongest tornado of the day. It developed west southwest of Lake City and produced tree and power line damage. The tornado moved into and across the southern portion of Lake City. Imagery from UAV's and chasers show that the tornado was multi-vortex as it passed through the city. Up to EF2 damage occurred as it passed through town. As the tornado moved east of the town, it began to consolidate into a larger funnel and strengthen. It passed through a farmstead producing considerable damage to the farmhouse and out buildings with EF3 damage noted on the house. The tornado continued for a few more miles and impacted a confinement facility before lifting to the northwest of Lohrville. Fortunately, no injuries or deaths occurred with this tornado.

Thunderstorm Wind. Trained spotter reported a large tree snapped at its base along with several other small branches and limbs down. Spotter reported losing power as well. This is a delayed report and time estimated from radar.

Thunderstorm Wind. Trained spotter reported numerous large branches, 3 to 4 inches in diameter, down in town along with a couple of trees, 9 to 12 inches in diameter, down. Also reported power lines down, but unknown if the cause were the downed trees. Delayed report, time radar estimated.

Ice Storm. Sheriff's office reported icing of about 1/4 inch on the thin side and 1/2 inch on the thick side of power lines. Some power issues reported, especially in the southwest portions of the county.||Public also submitted a photo via social media to the KCCI ulocal page, and ice thickness was estimated at 0.25 inches.
