March 14, 2023 - Winter Storm

A heavy, wet snow fell across the county with a general 10 to 20 inches of snow, the higher totals across the higher terrain. This led to some tree damage and scattered power outages. Some specific snowfall totals included; 20 inches in Island Pond, 12 inches in Maidstone and Lunenburg.

December 23, 2022 - Strong Wind

Based on tree damage at several locations, especially the higher terrain likely experienced wind gusts in the 45-55 mph were estimated. Numerous branches, trees downed by winds as well as power outages.

January 17, 2022 - Winter Weather

Shadowing impacts from NH White Mountains led to lower snowfall totals of 3 to 6 inches. Brief strong and gusty east winds near 50 mph led to some scattered power outages.

December 6, 2021 - Strong Wind

Wind gusts in excess of 40 mph led to isolated power outages.

November 26, 2021 - Winter Weather

Rain changed to snow by late afternoon with snowfall amounts ranging from 2 to 4 inches in the valley with 4 to 7 inches in higher elevations. These higher amounts led to isolated power outages due to the wet nature of the snow.

August 1, 2006

A MCS (Mesoscale Convective System) developed in an extremely warm, humid and unstable airmass across southern Quebec, during the late evening of the 1st, and moved southeast into New Hampshire and Maine by midnight. However, the western edge clipped extreme northern Vermont with severe thunderstorms. A severe thunderstorm moved into Beechers Falls and knocked down numerous trees and caused power outages.

June 20, 2006

A mid-level atmospheric disturbance and surface cold front moved across a moderately unstable airmass during the early afternoon of the 20th. This led to the development of scattered thunderstorms across northern Vermont. One of these storms produced locally strong winds several minutes ahead of the precipitation, that toppled trees and caused power outages in Concord.

May 31, 2006

A cold front and mid-level atmospheric disturbance encountered a warm and unstable airmass across Vermont during the afternoon of the 31st and resulted in the development of thunderstorms. These thunderstorms intensified across north central and northeast Vermont, with scattered severe thunderstorms producing wind damage in Essex county. A few trees were blown down in Brighton State Park (2 SE Island Pond) and numerous trees were knocked down or snapped in the village of Canaan. Slightly over 5000 customers lost power in northern Caledonia and Essex counties.

July 19, 2005

A cold front extended from western Quebec south to Ohio early on the 19th of July. As the front moved east across Vermont during the afternoon, thunderstorm winds blew down a tree on a power line in Guildhall, VT with power outage.

June 9, 2004

A low pressure system moved across southern Quebec during Wednesday, June 9th. The associated trailing cold front tracked slowly across northern New York and Vermont during the morning and afternoon hours. This front was preceded and accompanied by thunderstorms with damaging winds. In the town of East Haven (Essex county), trees and power lines were blown down.
