A strengthening low pressure system and surface cold front near the Great Lakes region migrated into the Ohio Valley on the 24th, placing southeast Ohio in a warming and unstable environment. A line of severe thunderstorms stretched across Central Appalachia that afternoon, with a secondary line crossing through Ohio later that evening. Widespread thunderstorm wind damage was reported across the area, primarily in the form of downed trees and power lines.
