Strong winds gusting between 45 mph and 55 mph during the morning of October 21st blew down numerous large tree limbs in Hersher and Lansing. Two large trees were split, with one falling onto power lines in Beecher.
On the morning of July 22, a cold front extended from central Great Lakes region, southwestward through southern Wisconsin and into central Iowa. Ahead of the frontal boundary, Northern Illinois and Indiana were very moist, humid and unstable. In the late morning hours, a line of thunderstorms crossed the Mississippi River into western Illinois. This line continued to develop eastward and by around 1:00PM began to enter Grundy and Will Counties. The storms had continued to intensify with their eastward progression and produced up to penny sized hail and wind gusts up to 55 kts. The line of storms then continued into northwestern Indiana and over southern Lake Michigan. Isolated incidents of significant tree and power line damage were also reported in the storm's path.
At 6:00 PM, on the evening of June 11, thunderstorms began to develop along a line extending from near Galena, IL to near Ottawa, IL. Over the next two hours, this line gathered strength and moved eastward through northern Illinois, producing isolated severe weather over portions of Winnebago, De Kalb and Will Counties, ahead of a cold front. Large hail, up to one inch was observed near Roscoe, in Winnebago County. These storms were also associated with wind gusts estimated at 50 knots causing damage to trees and powerlines. Later in the evening, around 10:00 PM, a large area of widpsread thunderstorms developed over northeastern Illinois and built into northwestern Indiana. This area of thunderstorms were slow-moving with repeated development over areas. Large amounts of rain fell over the Chicago metro area with widespread flash flooding occurring, particularly in urbanized areas. Will County was the hardest hit with many instances of street flooding at intersections and underpasses. In addition to the flash flooding, isolated reports of wind and lightning damage were reported. By 4:00 AM, the front had pushed completely through northwestern Indiana, ending rainfall over the region.
Strong winds blew down numerous trees and power lines across northeast Illinois during the morning and afternoon of May 11th. Power outages occurred throughout the area. A gutter was damaged on a house in Gurnee in Lake county. Construction scaffolding was blown down in Ottawa in La Salle county. 15 utility poles were blown down in Streator and north of Ottawa in LaSalle county. Winds gusted to 53 mph in Waukegan in Lake county, 54 mph in Peru in La Salle county, and 55 mph in Romeoville in Will county.
A large bow echo moved across central Illinois during the afternoon hours of Sunday, July 8th. Most of the damage was in the form of trees and limbs blown down and power lines blown down. These locations include: five miles west of Streator in La Salle county; across all of Livingston county; across all of Iroquois county; and Paxton in Ford county. In addition to trees and power lines blown down, a corn field was flattened by 60 mph winds four miles west of Streator in Livingston County. A one foot diameter tree limb fell onto a new pick-up truck and destroyed the topper over the bed in Dwight in Livingston county at 1415 CST. One hundred lineal feet of a 36 foot high concrete block wall was toppled at a construction site in Clifton in Iroquois county at 1440 CST. A storage building was heavily damaged in St. Anne in Kankakee county at 1450 CST. The roof was blown off, garage doors were bent and siding was ripped from the building. A large tree also fell onto a car in St. Anne. A large tree fell onto a semi trailer in Claytonville in Iroquois county at 1505 CST. Power outages were widespread across these counties. No injuries were reported.
