High Wind. High wind gusts of 58 mph or greater were observed in Sherman County. The maximum wind gust of an estimated 70 mph was reported 13 miles north of Edson, KS. Blowing dust caused by the high winds reduced visibility down to near zero in some locations. Damage caused by the high winds included irrigation pipes blown onto Interstate 70 at mile marker 2, a power pole blown down 6 miles north of Goodland, KS on Highway 27 as well as up to 10 downed powerlines reported 3 miles north-northeast of Caruso, KS.

On July 3rd, a warm front passed through the northwestern region of Kansas which allowed thunderstorms to develop. These thunderstorms produced damaging wind gusts up to an estimated 95 mph as well as hail up to peas in size. Not only did the thunderstorms knock out power due to the damaging winds in Sherman county, but lightning from a thunderstorm was reported to have struck a substation in Decatur County, knocking out power for a good portion of the county.

Thunderstorm Wind. Report received of power lines down between Rd 13 and 14 on Road 59 due to a thunderstorm wind gust. A hog hut also blown 30 ft. and a T-post was bent by the wind gust. Time is radar estimated and wind speed is estimated based on damage indicators.
