Episodes
Thunderstorms developed near a warm front in an unstable environment, with plenty of low level shear/helicity, during the evening of Memorial Day, May 27th. This allowed the storms to rotate and rapidly became severe, producing tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds. The storms and tornadoes damaged homes, brought down many trees and power lines, and produced heavy rain as well.
Instability and shear developed in between an area of rain and an approaching cold front. This allowed a line of strong to severe thunderstorms to developed ahead of the cold front during the afternoon of May 19th and move across central Indiana. The storms brought damaging winds, which downed trees and power lines. A pole barn was damaged in Shelby County.
A line of showers and thunderstorms pushed into west-central Indiana during the early morning hours of the 19th. These thunderstorms produced severe wind gusts and damage across a couple counties in west-central Indiana. Portions of Clinton County had power outages due to the thunderstorms.
Lightning struck equipment or trees that damaged power lines when they fell.
A powerful storm system moved through central Indiana on the night of May 30th. Rain on the night of the 30th was not widespread, but fell in certain hilly areas of central Indiana so that lowland flooding quickly returned to the Wabash. This flooding lasted from May into June.

What Causes Power Outages?

- Repairing, maintenance or upgrades on power lines and equipment.
What are the Top Outage Safety Tips?
- Stay away from the downed power lines, park vehicles in protected areas;
- Unplug appliances and electronics, limit cell phone use to conserve battery life;
