June 25, 2017

A few severe storms produced very large hail up to the size of baseballs and a tornado near Walsh. Very large hail and severe winds in Walsh caused extensive damage to structures and vehicles. Power was knocked out for several hours and numerous businesses were closed for several days for clean up. Severe microburst winds also occurred west of Walsh. The tornado occurred just west of the microburst damage.

July 15, 2016

A very severe storm produced a wide swath of damaging winds and a tornado across eastern Kiowa and extreme northeastern Prowers County. A brief tornado was seen just east of Sheridan Lake, which broke windows in a house and did other minor property damage. Power poles, 18 in all, were snapped between Sheridan Lake and Towner. Windows were broken in many structures, including the Plainview School. Stadium lights were also destroyed. Eight miles south of the school, a hog farm sustained roof damage. In northeast Prowers County on County Road 35, a house and barn were severely damaged. Many power poles were also snapped.

Severe storms generated hail up to the size of ping pong balls and damaging thunderstorm winds that knocked down power lines across parts of Baca and Prowers Counties.

Five separate tornadoes occurred across Bent...Prowers...and Kiowa Counties...causing EF0 to EF2 damage. Eight people were injured...and one horse was killed. Four dwelling were destroyed...along with two mobile homes...one garage...and a metal building. A hog farm was destroyed...including 18 hog barns. Horse corrals were also damaged and destroyed. An electrical substation southeast of Lamar was damaged which contributed to a massive power outage in the Lamar area until the late afternoon hours. Two communication towers were also destroyed.
